The line of instruments I work on at Aerodyne are the gold standard for gas measurements, providing the most accurate measurements in the world.As an instrumentation engineer, I tune, test, and develop improvements for the QC Laser Trace Gas Monitor series of instruments, including upgrades to performance, manufacturability, and mechanical robustness. I assemble and test instruments to ensure proper operation and maximum sensitivity. I use software to analyze recorded data to isolate origins of noise from both mechanical and electrical sources. Additionally, I design or revise and model components and assemblies in CAD that are used inside or in conjunction with instruments to improve performance or reliability or simplify manufacturing. Some highlights from the projects I've worked on include a number of custom gas sampling/switching systems for clients based on their needs and existing systems, including integration with mass specs and other spectroscopy equipment. I have also designed and built zero stiffness vibration isolation systems for mounting instruments on mobile platforms. The greatest contributions I've made, however, are in the many, many small changes to instruments that have made them easier and less expensive to tune and operate. -
