COMMUNITY BANKING… What does that mean to you?For me, community banking is about believing in and supporting people that live and work in the same area as you. Community banks are here to serve the needs of local businesses. Most kids don’t say that they want to be a Business Banker on their first day of school but I can trace my fascination with community banking back to early in life, growing up in a small town in Northern Indiana. When I was younger, my family members were small business owners, operating a local lumber yard. Looking back now, I think of that environment and seeing the connection that my dad and grandparents had with the community they served. I know that is something that has served as a foundation for my appreciation of local business owners. In that same town was a small community bank. Like the lumber yard, the bank supported the needs of the people in that town and was often a place that hosted many community based conversations. I’ll be honest, at a certain age, the fact that I got a Dum Dum lollipop every time I went in the bank had a unique appeal that other places did not offer, however I’ve since understood that the experience at the local community bank and the local ownership and decision making that took place there influenced my decision to pursue a career in banking. In everything I do, I pride myself on focusing on the details and taking a logical, common sense approach to decision making. I feel like this is especially important in my role as a commercial lender. As I say all the time, every business owner operates their business in a unique way. By taking the time to have a thoughtful conversation and listen to the details, I’m able to focus on how I can best assist that business owner and allow them to grow and be part of a vibrant economy. If you’d like to have a conversation about the unique opportunities you or your company are presented with, please feel free to reach out to me.
