Tilthy Rich Compost uses bicycles and trailer to collect food scraps from our subscribers throughout Durham, NC, and turn them into compost. As a hauler, I rode a bike with a trailer once a week along a designated route collecting food scraps from approximately thirty houses and delivered to a collectiion point to be sent to a composting facility.

Durham Bike CoOp is a non-profit working to remove bicycles from the waste stream, teach bicycle maintenance and repair, and promote cycling as an affordable, healthy, and environmentally conscientious mode of transportation. As a mechanic and instructor, I work teaching clients how to diagnose and repair mechanical problems, help them build themselves a bike if they do not have one, and provide general advice about riding and maintaining bikes.

Troy Bike Rescue is a non-profit similar in spirit to Durham Bike CoOp (see above). My responsiblilies were very similar: to teach clients how to repair and maintain their bicycles. I also helped to organize the annual fundraiser and tabled for the bike rescue at RPI's Ecofest.

I was responsible for checking the contents of shipments against invoices, putting newly arrivedstock onto shelves, checking that displayed prices matched prices in the computer system, organising displays, removing out of date or damaged stock, and then processing customers transactions at the register. Simultaneously, I answered customers inquiries and assisted them in finding what they wished to purchase.

I entered transactions from clients' general journal into QuickBooks bookeeping software.Transactions included deposits, payments to vendors, transfers between company accounts, owners draw, and payroll. Once all transactions were entered I reconciled with the bank statements and reported any irregularities.
