I grew up on a mixed farm in a small community. It was hard work, and I grew up fast. I learned that when you put in good inputs, like hard work and quality feed and seeds, and you do it day after day and year after year, good things come out. My parents taught me independence, strong morals, and the importance of community. “There is no free lunch. Always work hard. Always do your best at every job, no matter how big or small. Care for the people in your community. Always lend a hand.” At my first job off the farm, my boss recognized my hard work and started a retirement savings plan for me. “If you put in $50 each month, I’ll match it.” He taught me about the importance of having multiple streams of income. Later, the dots connected: My parents were a living example! They were continually adding new streams of income, to act as insurance. They took action to make sure that no matter what the weather or livestock markets did, we would always have what we needed. Every one of these life lessons plays a part in how I serve my clients.
