Contracted by Agonis Group to undertake an Audit for KPMG on the condition of the Yarra Tram and Metro Rail networks on behalf of the “Victorian Department of Transport - Asset Integrity Team”. As part of a larger team I was responsible for assessing the condition of bridges, level crossings, maintenance facilities, yards, stables, platforms, substations, transformers, buildings, overhead structures, retaining walls and track switching equipment across the Yarra Tram and Metro Rail networks.

Contracted by Martinus Rail to assist their engineering and estimating bid teams with demolition, modification and constructability advice for all road over rail bridges, rail over river bridges and footbridge works within the proposed "Inland Rail - Albury to Illabo” scope of works. In addition, I prepared scope of work information packs for issue to sub-contractors for the quotation of turn-key construction works, demolition works, piling works, Form-Reo-Pour works, steel fabrication works, bridge modification works, scaffolding works and heavy lifts for all aspects of the bridge works.

South Dandenong Victoria

Contracted by Seymour Whyte Constructions to prepare “Traffic Management Plans” for the closure of 3 x Major Road intersections for the construction of a new Bridge over Pound Rd West South Dandenong and associated connecting road works and adjoining intersection modifications.Basically a short term role to assist the SWC Traffic Manager prepare for up-coming works while SWC await on the outcome of a Water Treatment Plant Bid that requires my support.

Bonbeach Melboure

Contracted to assist the Southern Program Alliance (SPA) civil team at Bonbeach to bulk excavate 2km of existing rail line and install associated drainage for the purpose of removing 2 x level crossings during their September/October rail occupation. Basically a short term role to assist SPA’s existing engineering team deliver a fast track work scope. Responsibilities included the review of the excavation philosophy, validation of engineering assumptions, provision of informative sketches to assist management & contractors understand the limitations of equipment plus provide technical and shift support to the main contractor during bulk excavation activities.

Contracted by Downer Roads as part of the VicRoads North East Maintenance Alliance (NEMA) I was engaged to provide project engineering support for the “Landslip Prevention Project”. The nature of my contribution includes contractor evaluation, contractor on-boarding, preparing ITP’s, preparing “Requests for Tenders”, reviewing tenders, reviewing SWMS, preparing Tool-box Talks and preparing weekly team meeting minutes. Contracted by CMC Group to assist Fulton Hogan with preparing lift plans and work packs for the installation of 24 x 65T concrete bridge beams over the existing Cardinia Road level crossing using a 750T mobile crane. Initially I was to be engaged for a period of 6 weeks before my role was expanded to prepare piling, steel staircase and concrete barrier work-packs, site supervision, engineering support and mentoring while working in parallel as the assistant Construction Manager.

Engaged on a fixed term by WaterNSW to Project Manage and provide engineering support for the Hume Dam “Irrigation Channels – ECG Overhaul and Penstock Refurbishment Maintenance Project” for the maintenance arm of WaterNSW at Hume Dam.

Burnie Tasmania

Contracted by CMC Group to assist McConnell Dowell with setting up a parallel offshore piling/drilling contract to replace an existing offshore piling/drilling contractor that was not performing. (Parallel Contract Value: $10,000,000). In this role I was responsible for identifying, engaging and mobilising an alternate piling and drilling contractor from the UK within an 8 week period. This included co-ordinating contracts, logistics, finding local support labour, heavy lift planning and the engagement of local machine and fabrication shops to provide on-site support.

Additional responsibilities included assisting coating sub-contractors to comply with quality control documentation requirements whilst also providing technical advice on the installation of valving and piping.

Quattro Port Kembla Grain Terminal Construction

Dual role as project engineer and site manager for the construction of an 80 million dollar; 110,000T grain storage facility at Port Kembla NSW. Responsibilities include liasing with client, managing sub contractors, managing Kotzur site staff, providing on-site engineering support and managing commissioning.

Engaged casually (10 to 20 hrs/week) by Hyder Consulting to provide remote design checking and verification services for the expansion of the Tai-po Waste Water treatment Plant (in Hong Kong China) from 420ML/day to 840ML/day. Tasks include the mechanical design checking and verification of all work produced by the lead designer “Black & Veatch” and the constructor “ARUP”. I have been requested to perform this work on the back of the professional services provided by myself to Tenix Pty Ltd in 2010-2011.

Engaged by Amec PLC to provide engineering and commissioning support to the Oyu Tolgoi Business Readiness Department. Tasks included project close outs, overhaul and recommissioning of steam boilers, remediation of a diesel spill, maintenance and operation procedures for the “open pit” diesel tank farm, hazardous goods storage consulting, hazardous goods storage facility improvement, 48” poly pipeline repairs, assessment and advice on operation of site wide heat distribution network.

Papua New Guinea

Employed casually by Ausenco international to project manage the selection of a 125T bridge crane, the design of its supporting structure, and the decommissioning of the existing tower crane. As the project manager I was required to liase directly with the client and was responsible for managing the projects engineering resources aswell as the projects construction resources.

Engaged by “Tenix Pty Ltd” to provide engineering support services for the construction of a MBR sewerage treatment plant at “Hastings Council’s” Camden Haven Sewerage Plant in NSW. Services provided include project management, scheduling, supervision of civil/ mechanical and electrical sub contractors, process design, structural design, mechanical design and commissioning.

Hat Head, New South Wales, Australia

Engaged by Macleay Water to undertake a study to determine the operational parameters, system performance, design constraints, equipment constraints and control methodology of 1 x unreliable vacuum sewerage pump station at Hat Head NSW. Study concluded that the designers had not taken into consideration the head loss induced from the pulsation of the rotary load pumps downstream of the vacuum reticulation system as well as having under estimated the vacuum required to pull sewerage over long distances.

Crescent Head, New South Wales, Australia

Engaged in a consulting role by Macleay Water to study, investigate and provide solutions to eliminate water hammer within their Crescent Head Sewerage treatment plant “Effluent Transfer and UV Disinfection System”. Solution, design and estimate provided.

Greater Brisbane Area

Senior Commissioning Engineer – Co-ordination of Commissioning of 50Km re-use water pipe line including 2 x booster stations and 5 x raw water pump stations to various reservoirs and reverse osmosis plants. Engaged by the “Western Pipeline Corridor Alliance” as the fourth co-ordinator to manage 12 x Electrical and PLC engineers through the final stages of system commissioning. Due to design issues the project was temporarily abandoned in August while the designer re-assessed numerous process design short comings. Due to the death of a child provision of services was discontinued.

Engaged by “Akubra Hats” to design and definitively estimate the modification of an existing liquid trade waste treatment plant to meet newly legislated requirements. Scope of work included trade waste mass balance assessment and calculations, design of steam fired caustic soda dosing plant, civil modification of existing trade waste pit, automation of new and existing systems, and sizing and selection of cooling system complete with cooling tower and re-circulating pumps.

Secured contract to supply mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering services to increase productivity of 3 x aerosol can production lines and 1 aluminium casting plant facility. Responsibilities included commercial negotiations, provision of machine assessment studies, plant upgrade proposals, scope of works documentation, schedule development, project costing, project tracking and general project management and execution.

Engaged by “Veolia Water” to visit troubled project site to assess actual status of project for hand-over to new project manager. Scope of work included development of new project schedule to present to principal contractor, working schedule for Veolia water project manager and the provision of guidance to site staff and project manager on how to best deliver project.. Preliminary works included review of all drawings, P&ID’s versus manning levels, original schedule and actual plant built.

Provision of specialist engineering services to manage the selection of a preferred contractor to supply and install an $8million acid mist collection system for Oxiana’s EW tank house in Laos including modifications to existing overhead gantry crane and crane bale.Services provided include the development of “scope of supply” documentation, review and analysis of tenders, design assessments, commercial negotiations, mechanical engineering and selection of preferred vendor. Daily responsibilities included project management, scheduling, supervision of project appointed commercial manager, electrical engineer and process engineer.

Mount Kelly Queensland

Engaged by Ausenco Pty Ltd to provide engineering support to their Mount Kelly based construction crew for a period of three months. The Mount Kelly project consists of the construction of a new mine, crushing plant, 50km raw water pipeline, sulphuric acid storage facility, 2 x overland conveyors, leach pads, leach pad ore stacking machinery and the relocation, refurbishment & installation of an existing copper processing plant from a neighbouring mine. Services provided include the assessment and modification of existing processing plant, design of bulk acid storage tanks, the modification of imported plant to meet Australian standards, site surveying, labour supervision and general design verification for fixes on the run.

Provision of tender evaluation services for the engineering and procurement component of the Nui Phao tungsten project. Basically a short term assignment to assist the evaluation team expedite outstanding equipment supply packages for quotation and assess the suitability of equipment offered by suppliers..

Ranger Uranium Mine

With a pending acid plant shut down looming at the ERA Ranger Uranium Ore Processing Facility I was engaged by ERA ranger to review their damaged acid plant superheater. The purpose of this review was to ensure that an emergency repair strategy was developed in the event of failure of the unit before delivery of the replacement. The repair strategy included an analysis of expected failure types, how to prepare for maintenance work, how to identify the repair location, the repair options available to the client, sourcing of required spares and how to undertake repairs to the superheater including non-destructive testing. Duration of project 2 months.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia, Australia

Dual role as Project Engineer and Project Manager for refurbishment, relocation and modification of an existing Ausenco Pty Ltd Heap “Leach gold processing plant.” Extent of current works includes an estimate to relocate the disassembled ‘Timbarra’ Heap Leach Plant from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia to White Dam, South Australia with subsequent re-erection and dry commission. Estimate includes the costs of final scope definition, up-front engineering, schedule development, procurement, site mobilisation, civil works, plant relocation, component sorting, plant erection, electrical installation, dry commissioning and site demobilisation.

Ranger Uranium Mine

Responsible for the co-ordination of resources to plan and manage the overhaul of “”ERA Ranger’s sulphuric acid plant. “Project is currently on hold awaiting delivery of long lead items and installation of new acid unloading facility so as to provide acid to the ore processing plant during the shut-down. Expected duration of shut-down shall be six weeks, 6 days a week, 24hrs a day, running two shifts with a labour force of 80 men and management and supervisory team of 12.

Kempsey Nsw

Multi-role as design office manager, mechanical engineer, commissioning engineer and construction supervisor for optimisation of a wood fuel fired “brick kiln” saw-dust refinery. Primary focus included identification of preferred wood fuel particle “size distribution” for improved combustion and modification of existing plant to suit. Main modifications included design, of a 90m3 saw dust silo with integrated dust control system, bin discharger installation, re-routing of pneumatic conveying systems and modification of screw conveyor reticulation system.

Gladstone New South Wales

Multiple small project management and engineering support for a PLC based process control project, automated packaging line efficiency study and various feasibility studies. Main core skill requirements included design and routing of process pipe work and heat exchangers, pump selection and automated valving and instrumentation selection.

Dual role as assistant design office manager and mechanical engineer for brown field bauxite refinery filtration plant upgrade. Main design elements included plant structural modifications and platforming, tank modifications, pump selection and piping.

Responsible to the operations group for the reliability of the refinery’s gasoline plant, propylene purification plant, tanker loading bay facilities, storage tank farms and LPG gas storage facility. Duties include equipment monitoring, equipment rebuilds, process analysis, equipment design, equipment modification, equipment selection, trade supervision, project implementation, project management and trouble shooting. Specific skills include the performance of calculations, design verification, the modification of existing pumps, pressure vessels, process lines and compressors to new duties, the communication of business opportunities to plant management, company representation (to other company sites, share holders, industry bodies & regulatory bodies) in matters relating to technology, budget preparation, detailed planning, scheduling and commissioning.

Seconded to Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) I was primarily project orientated. My responsibilities included the development of scopes of work for new studies, associated problem solving, detailed design as required, modelling, estimation, infield testing & trials, supervision of drafting staff on a project by project basis, development of specifications, site specific project management and technical support during project construction and plant commissioning.By the very nature of the plant I was exposed to significant heavy engineering projects. The nature of my position required me to work closely with QAL project and production staff. As a result I played an important design role in a multitude of hydraulic projects, structural projects and process equipment upgrades in all areas of the plant.

Over a nine-month period I worked on secondment as an on site team member aiding in the recommissioning of a state of the art cement sheet production unit for James Hardie’s Factory Australia Project. Basic duties included production machine assessment, design modifications, instigation of preventative maintenance strategies and supervision of engineering upgrades.On a project by project basis I was responsible for the design of a number of hydraulic systems, upgrades of plant pneumatics and schematics, blower station rebuilds, general mechanical upgrades, dust control and re-building of high speed gantries. On a more general level I was responsible for the commissioning of new and modified plant, installation and improvement of safety equipment, proposal development and the organisation of contract labour staff associated with general engineering projects.

Outside of the steam and power generation industries my team also provided bulk materials handling solutions within the Asia Pacific region to alumina refineries, aluminium smelters, food manufactures, cement works, glass plants, steel works, foundries, mines and other associated industries.

Immediately responsible for the promotion of Southern Queensland’s Dust and Waste Handling division it was my duty to develop new avenues of business while responding to both prospective and current client inquiries. I sought to identify the source of fugitive emissions found on site and instigate a plan to achieve the customer’s aims within budget. My work at site, or in the office, consisted of the development of preliminary design proposals and estimates while maintaining constant liaisons with our central engineering office in Sydney. Following the completion of such tasks it was my duty to return to the client with the completed proposal to negotiate and secure an order. Upon award of contract I continued to maintain customer relations, aid in commissioning and resolve problems as they arose.
