I’m a director at Visual Displays Limited (VDL), experts in all aspects of projection, front and rear. I also work as specialist consultant on light-related topics e.g. projection, meeting rooms and videoconferencing for government, business, voluntary bodies and other consultant colleagues.VDL supplies specialist services to AV consultants and specifiers, providing detailed designs for projection systems to be specified in tenders as a free service.VDL makes rear projection mirror systems and for floor/table projection. We specialise in projection under bright lighting conditions (high ambient light); exclusive UK and Ireland distributors for dnp denmark’s ambient-light rejecting projection screens. VDL is expert in interactivity – making any floor, table, wall or surface interactive – touch or gesture. VDL engineers exceptional user experiences, turning the most ambitious visions into reality. Our team comes from Paradigm AV, which I formed in 1988, now running under the VDL banner. In 2002 I was visiting lecturer at UMIST University (now University of Manchester) writing a module on projected displays for a post-graduate MSc. I have authored best practice and white papers on projection and displays.I played leadership roles in InfoComm, now AVIXA (the global AV association), on the board from 2008 to 2013, and its President in 2012. I’m active within Standards: lead writer on Projected Image System Contrast Ratio (‘PISCR’) ANSI Standard; moderated task DISCAS ANSI Standard on image size, resolution & viewer locations; currently on ISCR ANSI Standard group, bringing projection and direct view display quality under a single standard.Beyond my day jobs and volunteering I present and teach internationally.

The Standards Steering Committee is advisory to the Board of Directors on issues pertaining to audiovisual industry standards. The committee provides the Board with recommendations for standards development as it relates to AVIXA’s strategic plan. As AVIXA’s official American National Standards Institute (ANSI) consensus body, the Standards Steering Committee approves completed standards before they are sent for ANSI approval and subsequent publication.

Non-exec role to provide due diligence for main InfoComm/AVIXA board. IAPL is a joint venture formed between MPI Ltd. and InfoComm International to organize and operate trade shows for the commercial audio visual industry throughout Asia and the Middle East. It's run by a great team I'll miss working with!
