I photographed objects to create almost 30,000… Show more As a contractor on the Collections on the Web team, I managed collections in MIMSY XG to publish over 30,000 objects to the web and created over 30 new Object Groups with the Drupal-based Object Group Management Tool. Publishing these records to the web required knowledge of the museum’s functions, standards, methodology, and best practices for the care and preservation of collections through the museum’s database of record, MIMSY XG. I photographed objects to create almost 30,000 digital surrogates that have been linked to their record data through MIMSY XG and processed the digital content to the DAMS and IDS. Skills used included Adobe Suite products including Photoshop and Bridge to process image metadata.I used my extensive knowledge of collections to answer questions from researchers and Smithsonian partners including supplying graphics to SI partners in product development for Pearson educational videos. Using my knowledge of museum objects and the collections, I responded to loan requests from institutions across the Smithsonian Institution. My contribution to Cooper-Hewitt was published in the exhibition catalogue for the Cooper Hewitt's "Tools" exhibition. I worked with the Exhibits Department for several exhibitions, including “FOOD: Transforming the American Table”, “American Enterprise,” “American Stories,” “Inventing in America,” and the “Object Project” supplying graphics information and object dimensions for brackets; noting any long-term care issues, including light sensitivity; and suggesting objects for rotations.Through conducting object-based historical research and creating online Object Groups, I developed excellent skills in identifying graphics from both published and unpublished sources, as well as in using Photoshop skills to create new graphics.
