About Greg Lear
I got started with relation databases in 1986 as a developer in the Air Force. In 1990, I installed Oracle version 6 database on a PC for development and test. From that point on, I have been primarily an Oracle DBA. After retiring from the Air Force in April 1995, I accepted a contract position working at the Air Force Personnel Center as a DBA for Oracle Apps. We began installing Oracle HR Application versions prior to Release 10. There was no GUI installer, we ran the install utility (adaimgr) from the unix prompt. I have 14+ years experience with Oracle (EBS), HR and Financials. This includes major upgrades from 10.7 to 11i and database upgrades from 7.3 up to 10g and 11g. Assisted with analyzing and defining migration path to R12 EBS. I have work on all the major UNIX platforms and on windows server implementations. Experienced with most Oracle utilities. Also worked with Oracle Replication, DataGuard, Enterprise Manager, and RMAN. Currently working with Oracle RAC on Exadata and the new Oracle Database Appliance. Latest projects involve database migrations using Oracle GoldenGate. Upgrading RAC databases to 12c.

Worked with multiple clients. Performed several RAC installs on 4-way and 8-way several systems. Configured clusterware, ASM, ACFS, and RAC database. Created new databases on Exadata 11gR2 and migrated production (legacy) databases (9i - 11gR1) on AIX, HPUX, SUN, Linux, and Windows to the Exadata database machine running OEL 5. Install and Configure Oracle GoldenGate for migrations and live standby. Installed, configured, and use Enterprise Manager Cloud Control on Linux, Linux VMs, and Windows. Setup and monitor RMAN backups and assisted with documenting disaster recovery information.

Made several test runs which included migrating data from their current legacy system ISAM files into Oracle tables. Set up RMAN scripted backups on Linux and Windows and performed Disaster Recovery exercises which had never been successful before.

Large Oracle HR (EBS) Implementation. 38 production sites around the U.S. to include the Air Force, Navy, and Army production systems. Then we had more for Test, SQT, and Development. Migrated these systems from Oracle Apps 10.7 and database 7.3.4 to Apps 11i (11.5.10.2) and database 10gR2. Apply quarterly CPU patches to these systems. Clone them (before Rapidclone) for test and development.
