Be Inspired Foundation provides the opportunity for disadvantaged youth in Western Australia living with long term impairments to adopt life-long coping strategies and improve their quality of life.

This role was responsible for the Pharmacy Trial Program (funded by Commonwealth DoH) and two Information, Linkages and Capacity Building Programs (NDIS).

Working closely with executive management team and directly managing the communications, marketing, and engagement officers some of the responsibilities of this role included:- preparing, managing, and submitting tenders and grants- managing corporate marketing and communications- managing GP engagement and engagement with other health professionals and community- identifying and developing new business opportunities- overseeing an accredited RACGP education program

Responsible for managing patient flow from other hospital wards (internal and external) to the Specialist Rehabilitation Service. During my employment I was able to strengthen existing relationships and grow new referral sources through effective engagement with stakeholders from both the private and public hospitals in Western Australia. Additionally, I initiated improved continuity of care by creating and managing the multidisciplinary discharge letters that were sent to each patient's referring specialist and GP. Notable achievements:- managed over 1000 referrals in 11 months- increased referrals from public hospitals by 29%- year on year growth of >10% - initiated service expansion by overflowing rehab onto the medical ward due to demand- improved continuity of care by establishing a comprehensive discharge letter

I was fortunate enough to get an offer as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Oncology, under the supervision of Professor Linda Carlson. My role was to contribute to several research projects within the integrative oncology program of the psychosocial oncology team. Projects include:Evaluating education programs on complementary therapies and natural health products for patients and health service providers, examining models of care for adult survivors of paediatric cancer, exploring knowledge translation strategies to create accessible services for patients, and exploring specific men’s support groups for cancer survivors.

My PhD examined the role of exercise in reducing depression in cancer survivors. Two papers were published.During my studies I also tutored undergraduate units:- Human Physiology- Exercise Physiology (Cardiorespiratory Physiology)- Physiology of Exercise 2 (Applied Physiology)- Sports Science Applications (Practicum Supervisor)

Working as a research associate in the NHMRC funded Centre for Research Excellence in Discovering Indigenous Strategies to improve Cancer Outcomes Via Engagement, Research Translation and Training (DISCOVER-TT). The ultimate aim of DISCOVER-TT is to improve the survival and quality of life of Indigenous people with cancer, through a strategic focus on health system performance in the areas of diagnosis, treatment, and care. This will be done by building an evidence base through innovative, high-quality, priority-driven, applied health services research which aims to reduce disparities in treatment and survival for Indigenous Australians with cancer.(http://www.cucrh.uwa.edu.au)(http://nican.org.au/)

The Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle (AusDiab) study is the largest Australian longitudinal population-based study examining the natural history of diabetes, pre-diabetes (in which glucose metabolism is impaired but not to the level to cause diabetes), heart disease and kidney disease.The baseline study conducted in 1999-2000 provided benchmark national data on the prevalence (or number of people) with diabetes, obesity, hypertension and kidney disease in Australia. The second phase of AusDiab, completed in December 2005, is a five year follow-up of the people who participated in the baseline survey. The results of the follow-up provide a unique picture of the incidence (or number of new cases) of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease over five years, and allows us to improve our understanding of the factors that increase the risk of these conditions. Worked as an accredited exercise physiologist in the day-to-day running and management of three clinical trials registered with ANZCTR. Roles include project coordination; recruiting participants; measuring body composition and bone density, testing muscle strength, endurance, balance, and functional assessments; assisting with maximal aerobic tests and stress tests; overseeing resistance and aerobic training.
