Greg MacKinnon joined PREA in 2009 as Director of Research. At PREA his role includes providing information, research, and thought leadership on real estate investment issues to the institutional investor community. He also serves as the public face of the organization, engaging with media and speaking at outside events. Prior to joining PREA, he had been Professor of Finance at Saint Mary’s University in Canada since 1996. During his career as an academic Greg taught at several universities in Canada and New Zealand, and has conducted numerous professional development courses through organizations such as the Institute of Canadian Bankers, MIT, and others. His research, focused on real estate investment issues, has won a number of awards, been presented at venues throughout the world, and has been published in the top research journals. He has also been quoted on real estate investment issues in media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, National Real Estate Investor, Pensions and Investments, Bloomberg Businessweek and IP Real Estate. Greg is a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Institute, a Fellow of the Real Estate Research Institute, and a member of the MSCI/PREA U.S. Property Fund Index Advisory Board. He is on the Editorial Board of the bi-annual special real estate issue of the Journal of Portfolio Management, is a former editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Canada CFA Society. Greg holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Alberta and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
