Greg has presided as Group Treasurer for the Qantas Group over the last 8 years. He is responsible for managing a portfolio of Risk Management, Funding, Operations, Mergers & Acquisitions, Group Insurance, Fleet Strategy Planning and Investment and Capital Management. Pre-COVID the Qantas Group Treasury was responsible for risk managing over A$4bn p.a. of Jet Fuel consumption, multiple currency exposures from over 84 offshore points of sale, a predominantly USD based capital expenditure spend of ~A$2bn p.a., interest rate exposure on its ~A$5bn of net debt, as well as credit and carbon risk management and daily liquidity and cash management. Greg & his team managed the introduction and implementation of the Groups Financial Framework which has been integral in ensuring the airline has appropriate leverage settings, investment hurdles and capital allocation principles in place. The funding book consists of ~A$7bn of gross debt including multiple AMTN issuances, unsecured syndicated loan facilities, secured bonds, leases and asset financing structures. Responsibility for complex hedge accounting and the control and governance environment also rest with the Group Treasury function at Qantas.As an airline, Qantas faced formidable challenges as COVID crippled demand for air travel and grounded airlines globally. In a volatile environment Greg and his team continued to develop & implement key strategic initiatives to ensure critical liquidity remain available throughout the crisis, maintained world leading risk management practices and levels of governance, continued strong engagement with lenders and Credit Rating Agency Moodys and helped the business position itself for accelerated balance sheet recovery and strong earnings in FY23. Qantas was one of six airlines in the world to have maintained its investment grade rating with Moodys during COVID and accessing multiple secured and unsecured funding markets to boost liquidity during the crisis allowed Qantas to come through COVID with its balance sheet intact, with no significant change in its refinancing profile or to its funding terms and conditions.Greg joined the airline in 2001, from 2008-2016, in addition to his roles in Qantas Treasury over that time, he was the Trustee Director of Qantas Superannuation Limited and served on the Investment Committee, Audit Committee, and Chaired the Remuneration Committee. Greg is a CPA and has also completed the Harvard Club of Australia Program for Leaders.
