Over the last year, I have been working as independent contractor for Atlantic Wave Contractors. As a independent contractor has been a eye opening experience, the work flow is not as fruitful as expected. In this position (project manager) we have installed, repaired, moved and maintained building signs, parking lot lights, as well as mar-key signs. This position includes, but is not limited to, production support for planning and acquisition, coordinating information to ensure timely order fulfillment with equipment delivery in mind. This all takes place on industrial hydraulic systems.

As the Design Engineer for the gravity roller product line (the core business for this international firm) responsibility includes design / development of products as well as training of personal. This includes all aspects of the sales and manufacturing process, including but not limited to preparing the quotes, confirming manufacturing lead times, quality assurance, and delivery of the final product to the customer. Travel with QA and Sourcing (purchasing) on vendor site visits and audits was a frequent requirement. My position made me the lead returned merchandise authorization (RMA) investigator for the roller product line. Interaction with quality assurance and the various production teams on process improvements for defective parts per million opportunities (DPMO) reduction was an integral part of this position. Maintain bills of material for manufacturing and participate in process improvement (Lean) workshops using Lean and Six Sigma tools. This also ensured effective communication between all functions for orders to assure quality control and on time delivery.

In this position my team enhanced the safety and production capacities of three Diesel Fuel Pump Assembly lines using Lean Sigma methodology. Solving daily production problems was a key for this position, as well as building and maintaining BOM’s, component layout, improving machine design, maintenance specifications, shop floor layouts for optimum safety with production in mind. This required support for budget justification for capital expenditures (for new and existing assembly processes) utilizing AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, and the Microsoft office suites. With close collaboration with Quality Assurance to maintain the plant ISO 9000 & TS O16949 certifications, with the mind set of production output being key.
