Initial objective was to develop the design capabilities and resources of The Media Factory, (NQNE’s - The Northern Echo / commercial design agency) from that of a small in-paper leaflet design service to that of a fully fledged design agency. Succeeded in establishing significant market share with blue-chip clients in the leisure, charity, retail and service sectors, both establishing and consolidated it’s creative capabilities.Main daily objective was managing the design output of a team of seven designers, into the non-editorial aspects on NQNE’s publishing activities consistent with the business plan. That included, The Media Factory, new media design, advertising and promotion.Key tasks involved in achieving these objectives included: managing all advertising artists, web designers and commercial graphic designers; implementing design guidelines, monitoring performance and improvement; visually developing and promoting brand management of main titles, electronic publishing and corporate identity, defining acceptable standards for creative staff, recommending training and conducting staff appraisals; liaising with editorial, advertising, information services, promotions and other departments, capital expenditure recommendations in respect of publishing technologies, liaising with external Media Factory clients, printers, bureau and other publishing suppliers.As a member of the senior management team of Newsquest (North East) Ltd, played a critical role together with other senior managers in formulating and implementing the business plan.

Worked primarily on creating all the branding, literature, advertsing design work including project managing international exhibitions for the Italian Americas Cup Yacht builders, Tencara SpA, in Porto Marghera, Venice Italy. Involved working in Venice, Florida, Monte Carlo. Should you be up on Americas Cup, you will know that the Italians came second!!
