Greg Mauro is an American entrepreneur, ski enthusiast, and investor. Greg founded Learn Capital which is the world’s first and largest venture portfolio focused on human capital development. Greg is passionate about democratizing access to the highest quality education, training, mental health, and health care. Since founding Learn in 2009, the firm has invested in over $1.2B across 200 companies including Udemy, Coursera, Nerdy, Brainly, Brilliant, Photomath, and General Assembly. Mauro is also the co-owner of Powder Mountain. He was the majority owner for a decade after purchasing the resort in 2013. He expanded Powder into the largest ski area in the United States while rejecting the corporate overcrowding transforming the ski industry. Netflix cofounder Reed Hastings purchased a majority stake in 2023, commenting “I’d like to acknowledge my co-owner at Powder, Greg Mauro, who kept us out of the Epic/Ikon passes, forging our “uncrowded” position that led to the No. 1 Ski Magazine ranking." Ski Magazine also stated “Nearly everyone who’s skied Powder Mountain believes it’s the greatest ski area on earth.” Prior to Learn, Mauro ran an affiliate of the Founders Fund, and founded multiple ventures backed by Founders Fund including Smartdrive, sold to Vista Equity for $450M in 2022. Mauro has founded several deep tech ventures including Tachyon, a predecessor to Starlink, which pioneered broadband satellite access with customers ranging from NASCAR to the US Department of Defense. Greg is a graduate of UCLA’s College of Honors. Greg started his career as a strategy consultant for Michael Porter’s Monitor Group. Greg is a longstanding backer of high-performing charter school networks, serving on the board of High Tech High and now Valor Education.
