About Greg Mccarthy
I am a very experienced Fire Behaviour Analyst (FBAN) and Fire Ecologist. I am also very skilled at producing Fire Behaviour Predictive Maps using GIS. I am an operational firefighter with 50 years experience (General Firefighter currently, previously Operations Officer Level 2, Air Observer and Air Attack Supervisor, and occasionally Sector Boss and Divisional Commander - e.g. 2003 Alpine Fire). My "PhD" has wings - a Sonex aircraft plans built over 19 years. This owner built aircraft is a testament to my perseverance and determination. I am a skilled Fire Ecologist with lots of experience in flora and fauna survey through my experience establishing and measuring Landscape Mosaic Burn Plots. I am a published Fire Researcher with publications in peer-reviewed journals. These include publications on the effectiveness of fuel reduction burning, mapping fire mosaics at the fine scale, and rapid fuel assessment techniques. I am a keen amateur bird watcher and photographer. I have a passion for the reintroduction of Traditional Burning across the Australian landscape - this is the only way to Heal Sick Country, Manage Country with Right Way Fire, and produce Healthy Country. I live in Kabi Kabi and Butchulla Country at Rainbow Beach, Queensland. I came from Gunaikurnai Country in East Gippsland, and hope to return for visits in the future.I have a long involvement in Fire-fighting Operations and Fire Training in Victoria and NSW.
