As an Armor officer, I have held positions as a tank platoon leader, an infantry platoon leader, a scout platoon leader. The platoon leader role had me responsible for the welfare, training and employment of as many as 42 enlisted soldiers.I was also responsible for the maintenance and use of four M1A1 Abrams valued at over $60 million each.I deployed to Iraq in 2008 as a Battalion S1. I was put in charge of a staff of 8 soldiers that managed the personnel files of over 500 soldiers within the battalion. I had oversight of all awards, leave, pay, medical and the basic legal issues of these soldiers. As a deployed S1 I also had the duty of investigation and reporting when a soldier was wounded or KIA. This was a heavy responsibility, as my report was the official document that the family received summarizing the events that led up to the soldier's injury or death.Upon return from Iraq, I transferred to the Public Affairs Office at Joint Force Headquarters. As a PAO, I handle press releases, interact with local media, coordinate ceremonies, write stories for the month "Guardian" magazine, and assist with the social media for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. I am currently working in a Security Forces Assist and Advisory Team (SFAAT), helping the Afghan National Army build it's capabilities in preparation for the drawdown planned for 2014. I am lucky to get to work directly with an Afghan officer that has 32 years of experience within the Afghan National Army (ANA). I have advised him on the role of the PAO within the ANA, and worked to help him understand the importance of information operations in supporting kinetic operations. Show less
