Manage a real estate boutique as part of the Voya Investment Management fixed-income team. Voya Investment Management is a division of Voya Financial, a 2012 spin-off of the U.S. operation of ING Group.The 55-person real estate department comprises diverse disciplines: loan production, legal, servicing, portfolio management, and risk. The team originates $4.0 billion of commercial real estate loans in the core, core plus, and opportunistic space; including transitional, mezzanine, bridge, construction, and participating mortgages. The portfolio is a mixture of retail, industrial, multi-family, office, and specialty assets such as self-storage, mobile homes, and hotels, representing $15 billion of assets under management. Upon transitioning to Voya Financial, a five-year real estate business plan was developed to launch a third-party platform. Over $8.0 billion was raised in separately managed accounts (SMAs) consisting of 23 investors: banks, pension funds, and insurance companies. In the 4th quarter of 2019, the Commercial Mortgage Investment Fund (CMLF) was launched; year to date, the fund has over $1.0 billion in equity with 24 institutional investors.
