Profile bio

About Greg Mitchell

I am a strongly motivated, very hard working and successful Aerospace Engineer who is looking to progress and expand my knowledge and career. I have an enquiring, energetic, and inquisitive mind, which has been put to good use during my time with Rolls Royce, where I have accumulated an array of relevant skills commensurate with my fast track progress. I have learned the advantages of independent working, allied to the ability to be part of wider team, both as leader and member, importantly having displayed good leadership qualities (both in and out of the workplace). Alongside engineering knowledge, I have gained expertise in project management, budgeting and product implementation. My background is one of high achievement, through education and the workplace, and my desire to continue to learn and improve is greater than ever, with an underlying 'can do' philosophy i.e. concentrating on finding solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. I am enthused by fresh challenges, and gain great satisfaction from delivering quality results and outcomes. Career progression, combined with a development of my own skills base are important to me, and I believe I offer the opportunity for continued growth in the right environment, which will benefit both the employer and myself.

Listed skills include Maintenance And Repair, Engineering, Propulsion, Aerospace, and 11 others.

Engage with operations and the Part 145 organisation on a daily basis to optimise maintenance and ensure as much health in the fleet as possible, whilst minimising disruption and highlighting potential risk. Technical Package – Continuing the Subject Matter Expert role from Defence Aerospace and guiding the implementation of the process in the Trent 1000 engine project, whilst focussing on a more strategic view of the process and how it can be made more applicable to the Overhaul environment. This involves liaising with multiple personnel and roles from across the company, engaging them and discussing any changes required.First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) – I have earned delegated authority from the Chief of Maintenance and Overhaul Manufacturing Engineering to approve First Article Inspection reports from the Overhaul supply chain (SAESL in particular at the current time). I provide direction and expertise during the planning of the FAIR that ensures when the FAIRs come for approval, they are to the highest standard and right first time. I also have delegated authority to sign off Measurement Systems Analysis reports that support the FAIRs (gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies). High Performance Culture (HPC) – I am the project lead for a Civil Aerospace Engineering wide (3000+ people) “blue chip” exercise to embed HPC into the organisation, trying to implement a widespread culture change to improve employee engagement, retention and satisfaction, in order to improve the company’s overall performance.Root Cause Analysis – I have trained in, and am a practitioner of, the 8 Discipline (8D) method of root cause analysis, and have used these skills to find the solution to multiple customer problems that caused significant disruption.Rolls Royce Indian Engineering Centre (RRIEC) – I am in charge of building Maintenance and Overhaul capability in the RRIEC in Bangalore, particularly in enabling them to become the Centre of Excellence for inspection and measurement.

Oct 2015 - Oct 2016

Maintenance And Overhaul Support Engineer

Bristol, United Kingdom

Technical Package – I was the subject matter expert in Defence Maintenance and Overhaul for a process called Technical Package. This process is designed to create robust technical instructions for overhaul methods, which meet design intent and have been evaluated using a series of risk assessment, mitigation tools and tests. I started with a blank canvas to implement the process, and as well as leading it on our overhaul programmes, have created a training pack, presenting the work to a number of senior engineering leaders on multiple occasions. This work has been shared across the company as best practice and is being utilised to raise skill and capability levels across Rolls Royce. TP400 Technical Package Implementation Lead – I was team lead in implementing this process into the TP400 overhaul processes for disassembly and assembly, linking all TP400 overhaul stakeholders. The challenge of this was enhanced by having a new team with little experience and tight timeframes associated with significant financial penalties for late delivery of capability, but all targets were achieved, as well as a significantly more capable team.Adour 871 and 951 Integrated Product Team Lead – Team lead for Maintenance & Overhaul Engineering on the Adour 871 and 951 Technical Data Validation (TDV) exercise, successfully setting up capability to overhaul the engines by mid-2015. I ensured appropriate commitment and delivery against project milestones, that were agreeable for all programme stakeholders. This work involved managing commitments, planning and structuring the teams time to meet evolving project needs, escalating resource and identifying capability gaps. I checked compliance to local and company best practices, garnering feedback and lessons learnt where appropriate. The TDV exercise ensured the shop floor instructions match the design intent, identifying potential improvements, while managing deviations through stringent risk assessment.
