I am teaching two or three courses each semester as a professor at Cal State Long Beach in the School of Hospitality. My courses I teach currently include Hospitality Systems and Advanced Hotel Management. Most are 300-400 level night classes meant to serve those folks who already work for a living, most in the hospitality industry. Teaching has been a huge joy for which I have always known I would be well suited but never had the chance. It is an honor to teach at Cal State. My Master's degree in German has allowed me to combine the degree with my 40+ years of experience in the Hospitality Industry, and share my experience with the new crop of hospitality executives to be.
  • Millennium Hotels And Resorts
    Director Of Revenue Management
Millennium Hotels And Resorts Apr 2014 - Sep 2017
    Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles
When I moved to the Sheraton Downtown LA from the Queen Mary, I felt I was moving back home. Now, having moved to the Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles, I feel I moved back to my family. So many of my coworkers from (sales managers to housekeepers) have been close friends for 12 years. The Biltmore itself is family, as the size and atmosphere of history match very closely with those of the old stomping grounds of the Wilshire Grand. I feel honored and blessed to be able to step in to the position at the Biltmore. The systems at the Biltmore are familiar as well, working with Opera and Ideas' Revenue Management systems. For all of the familiarity, it is still quite a daunting task to work in a property that has been my direct competitor for about 14 years. The property is different enough to be a challenge, but similar enough to be recognizable. I look forward to learning how to make more money here than we have ever made before. This is the perfect time too - as downtown LA is bursting with growth and the hotel demand is outrageous. This summer will be the best I have seen in 14 years, with back-to-back citywide conventions from June through August. We expect to start renovation, which is timed perfectly.
  • Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown
    Director Of Revenue Management
Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Jul 2012 - Apr 2014
    Greater Los Angeles Area
Felt sad to leave my friends at the Sheraton after only 1 3/4 years, but when my position opened up at the historic Biltmore in downtown LA, I felt compelled to join my good friends from the Wilshire Grand Hotel, many of whom I worked with for almost 12 years. I learned a lot while back in the Starwood fold, and cherished my experiences with the GM and executive committee. It was a tough decision to leave, but one I felt I had to make. I wish all of my Starwood friends well, and miss them. The systems and the network of people are invaluable. Was especially fond of the forecasting system - PDA Tools. RDP is exciting and good to see that Starwood is combining and cross-utilizing data systems.
  • The Queen Mary
    Director Of Revenue Management
The Queen Mary Dec 2011 - Jun 2012
    Long Beach, Ca
Had a very exciting 7 months working at the Queen Mary. during that time I helped:1) set up a new ticketing system,2) turn around completely how Opera is used,3) change connections to the GDS and web site from TravelClick to SynXis.Helping to bring to reality the Pricess Diana exhibit was probably the high point in my short tenure at the Queen Mary, I learned a lot, and made life long friends.I missed my "home" in Downtown LA, and decided it would be best for me if I went back to the downtown area I had worked in for 12 years. I will miss the Queen, and wish her well in the many new exhibits and renovations that are planned in the next year or so!

My major responsibility was to learn the hotel industry. I started making wake-up calls, and eventually got the news that my position was to be taken by the Night Auditor at the time. Sadly, it too was a lesson in the hotel industry. But I was lucky, and realized that I loved the business, stayed in it and continued to learn all aspects of the hotel industry.
