The one-year Masters in Real Estate Development and Design (MRED+D) combines rigorous training in real estate finance, economics, and market analysis with an understanding of innovative design, good urbanism, and social impact. I direct and administer this self-sustaining program including:• Oversee strategic direction of the program, articulating vision and objectives; ensure program investments are aligned with vision and objectives; direct long-term planning and developing policies and procedures.• Lead curriculum planning and implementation; serve as lead strategist; collaborate with campus-wide departments, managers, and internal constituencies; resolve student issues/problems.• Direct candidate and program marketing and recruitment strategies and campaigns; applicant processing and admissions; on-campus student support and advising; industry field project acquisition and delivery; career counseling/post-graduation assistance and alumni relations.• Manage and grow high-profile industry partnerships; support student study-travel and competitions, and negotiate student team capstone projects with industry executives.• Work closely with industry and other partners and College placement coordinators, oversee robust opportunities for job placement for MRED+D participants by creating multiple opportunities for student/industry relations.• Lead program budgeting and accounting processes to support the financial infrastructure of the MRED+D program; provide financial oversight and management of key program areas. Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and revenue streams, including fundraising and advancement. • Develop and teach development + design courses.• Undertake sponsored real estate + planning research.

A joint appointment in the Haskayne School of Business and School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape, the Parker Professorship is a “multidisciplinary initiative working towards community social and environmental solutions to auto-centric patterns metropolitan growth and change.”• Developed and led new practicum/workshop that brought together architects, planners and business students to prepare a comprehensive development proposal for a mixed-use project in Calgary.• Directed and conducted research on urban growth issues, such as secondary suites, barriers to urban infill, health impacts of the built environment, and small lot housing.• Developed and led community engagement plan to develop a plan to revitalize a low-income, largely immigrant corridor into a vibrant, transit-oriented main street.

One of six citizen members of CPC (appointed by City Council), which is the City’s development authority for projects delegated to it (i.e. determines whether to approve or refuse development permits) and makes recommendations to City Council on all land use and policy changes.• Made positive urban design improvements to many significant development projects in Calgary.• Made policy recommendations to be more outcome-oriented by better coordinating land use and transportation, to improve pedestrian and bike safety and improve the public realm of the City.

MOD Development is a real estate development company specializing in contemporary design, urban infill projects, and design + development consulting services. • Created a townhouse prototype adaptable to numerous site conditions, to provide an affordable alternative to single family detached housing in Los Angeles.• Acquired and obtained all approvals (subdivision, zoning and building permits) for a small lot site in Echo Park (sold as an entitled project).• Conducted feasibility studies (site design, unit layouts, parking configurations) and pro forma analyses for non- and for-profit developers in LA.

IoES provides solutions to regional and global environmental problems, educates leaders committed to the health of the planet, and advises businesses and policymakers on sustainability and the built environment.• Co-taught a three course sequence on the Global Environment, examining major urban environmental challenges (climate change, water quality, air quality, toxins & wastes, etc) from a multidisciplinary perspective (urban planning, engineering, ecology, and economics).

SA+P is the oldest architecture + planning school in the US, advocating forward-looking, technologically-driven solutions to the built environment and committed to leadership, innovation, and social impact.• Formed partnerships with municipalities and private companies and led interdisciplinary teams to create plans for Griffintown (Montreal, QC), Downcity (Providence, RI), and the Portlands (Toronto, ON).• Educated students on real estate development, urban design skills, and history/theories of planning.

Safdie Architects is a world renowned designer of high profile civic buildings, including the Salt Lake City Public Library, the Vancouver Public Library and the National Gallery of Canada• Created winning design proposal (part of 3-member team) for United States Institute of Peace (Washington, DC).• Coordinated the work of consultants, engineers and partner architecture firms; prepared construction documents for complex projects such as the Peabody Essex Museum and Salt Lake City Public Library.
