Managed the service department with up to 14 personnel reporting directly to me, was responsible for the P&L of the department. The position involves problem solving, some conflict resolution, working with other department managers, dealing with staff and the diverse industry customer base.

West Central Alberta

The Evergreens Foundation is a non-profit housing management body that provides affordable housing options to seniors, individuals and families. The Foundation operates 182 Lodge units, 4 Seniors Self-contained Apartments (120 units), 21 family housing units and numerous Rent Supplement designations throughout west central Alberta. The Foundation is managed by a regional board of Directors representing each of the member communities. I was elected by the Board to serve as the chairperson in 2008 and served in that position until leaving in 2017.

Elected to the position of Mayor in October of 2004, I was one of the youngest Mayors in the province that term. I called it the learning elevator as I didn't have time for a curve as having never sat on any previous council. As a quick learner I rose to the challenge and had a successful thirteen years as Mayor. I have proven to be an effective lobbyist with the highlight of the opening of our community's new hospital in 2016.

Growing up in a family business gives you the opportunity to move throughout a business. It has its challenges as your expectations from your family are different than that of a regular employer. It has afforded me the opportunity to understand business from my father, how to treat and respect your customers and how you never turn a customer away! I learned how to deal with customers, managers and staff. all of which has taught me how to deal with different types of people. I guess you could say I was home schooled in business and to quote my father "If all those business professors are so smart about business, why are they not in Business?".
