I have been involved in the law enforcement field since 1993, and have obtained a variety of work experiences in that time. I have worked for a Federal agency in a tourist area, I have worked in a mid-sized college town, and I have worked for many years in a typical small town too. The expectations of the public served were all distinctly different, as were the practices and procedures used by the respective agencies, so I was exposed to differing philosophies and goals at each stop, which have helped to make me well rounded.I’ve always enjoyed working in law enforcement, because of the opportunities it provides to genuinely help others. To me, there’s more to policing than just writing tickets or making arrests. An offer to assist or providing a resource to someone in need can be just as impactful. Over my career, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in multiple positions, and learn the varied responsibilities of each. My specialties have been investigative work and also administrative duties, and while most times you are out of the public view, both are still vital to the success of the agency.Now as an agency head, I get to use the education, training, and skills I've gathered over 27 plus years to continue moving our department forward, and to reinforce the community policing concept in our staff. It may seem old fashioned, but treating others with dignity and respect can't ever go wrong.I also have begun to use my life and work experiences to hopefully benefit others in our county, by serving on volunteer boards. I hope to be able to make a bigger impact locally, and use my skills and experiences for the greater good.
