Port Manager
As the Port manager for a North Atlantic steamship service calling four ports in a weekly service. I was responsible for all facets of the port operations including vessel management, import and export cargo management, transportation, maintenance and repair, and warehousing operations managing a staff of 5 full time employees. Areas of responsibilities included, but not limited to:o Contract and rate negotiation with service providers. o Full container, LCL, and break bulk cargo load planning, lashing, and rate development. o Maintain and negotiate terminal charges as primary port tenant of Penn Terminals. Verify and approve terminal invoicing.o Regular consultation with the sales department to develop new business. o Develop and initiate methods to reduce administrative task time and costs for port office.o Manage container and chassis maintenance and repair program. Including timely recovery of equipment damage costs and ensuring proper equipment levels are available for forecasted cargo.o Oversee terminal management of on sight warehousing.o Assisted with development of and provide management support to off site 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse.o Oversight of vessel stowage planning, husbandry, and stevedoring operations for weekly rotation of four vessels ranging from 1400-2600 teu capacity.o Interact with government agencies to ensure compliance and understanding of regulations. o Ensure terminal follows established procedures and meets performance standards, identifying opportunities for improvement. o Ensure DOT and IMDG hazardous regulations are followed throughout supply chain. Weekly audit of all export cargo Dangerous Goods Declarations and Container Packing Certificates. Produce and sign Dangerous Goods Manifest for vessels. o Verify service provider invoicing and rectify any discrepancies.o Involvement in development and implementation of new cargo handling and conveyance methods.
