The Ensham General Manager – Projects has responsibility for the planning, execution, delivery, and handover to operations of all major capital projects conducted on the minesite. Where practical, as in the case of the Trial Underground Project, project areas are identified as separate mining areas with the GM-Projects appointed as the SSE with accountability in accordance with the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibility included preparation of project execution plans, assembly of project execution teams, engineering, procurement, planning and scheduling, sub-contractor and supplier negotiations, contract administration, quality assurance and quality control, on-site construction management, cost control, compliance with contractual commitments and commissioning and handover.
