Greg Seyfarth work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Advanced Robotics Engineer
State estimation and localization for autonomous robots--Novel localization sensors--Computer vision based localization strategies--Lots of C++/Python robotics software
Engineering Manager - Runtime Systems
--Grew team from 3 engineers to 8. Worked with technical recruiter to guide entire hiring pipeline including developing job descriptions, sourcing, training interviewers, and closing candidates.--Worked with product management to create roadmaps for new features--Provide technical leadership and project management support for a variety of software development projects including code for the human-machine interface screen, safety-critical redundant braking systems, and an end-of-line quality checking software tool
Robotics Software Engineer
--Wrote high-performance, safety-critical multi-threaded C++ code for the drive-by-wire interface--Developed CI (continuous integration) testing pipelines for perception code--Extensive hands-on experience troubleshooting software issues across the entire autonomous driving stack--Lead sensor selection, evaluation, and integration efforts. Worked with many different sensors including RADARs, FMCW LiDARs, traditional 3D LiDARs, cameras, and GNSS/INS systems.
Robotics Software Engineer
--Worked closely with two other roboticists to develop code to run an autonomous ground robot in indoor retail environments for long periods of time with no human intervention. --Developed and tuned state estimation algorithms (Kalman filters, etc)--Developed solutions to allow a vision-based SLAM system to function for long periods of time in a constantly changing environment. --Designed and wrote a remote communication protocol and web based interface for teleoperation and supervised autonomy--Improved speed of the robot's primary planning algorithm by an order of magnitude
Graduate Research Assistant Under Ralph Hollis
Developed SIMbot, a dynamically stable human-sized mobile robot with two moving parts. It's in the news! Check out the link below.--Brought system from a benchtop spherical induction motor and frame to a full, working robot. --In collaboration with one other student, redesigned, manufactured, assembled, and tested the induction motor controllers for the purpose of handling 2x more current and producing 2x more torque.--Rewrote existing Ballbot codebase to be compatible with SIMbot and maintained all real-time (QNX) and high-level (ROS/Robot Operating System) code for controlling SIMbot--Evaluated performance and efficiency of SIMbot relative to the original Ballbot design through a series of experiments--Redid networking scheme for improved speed and robustness in the presence of magnetic fields--I wrote a paper, published it, and presented it at ICRA 2016 in Stockholm - see below for details. The paper is behind a paywall but is available on request.
Children'S Ski Instructor
Instructed young skiers in beginner ski techniques. Often coordinated groups of up to ten young people and was responsible for their safety and well-being for day long activities.
Reu Researcher
--Researched thin film epitaxial growth as an REU student researcher at Bucknell University under Professor Ben Vollmayr-Lee--Analyzed numerical stability of semi-implicit time integration schemes for a particular partial differential equation modeling thin film epitaxial growth--I presented this work at the APS (American Physical Society) March Meeting in 2013. See below for the link.--Paper available on arXiv: https://arxiv.org/abs/1303.5311
