Management of systems support group for a world leading genomics research organization. Leading a small team of 8, this hands-on position included hiring, planning, budgeting, and project management. Some significant project areas included: • Data Centre design/planning for large HPC cluster expansion.• Expansion, upgrade, and maintenance of Linux HPC cluster (6000+ cores).• Developing Scalable Storage Infrastructure (grew from 100TB to 3.5 PB).• Physical and logical network redesign to support cluster / storage performance needs. • Designing Backup solution and policies to support research needs.• Establishing performance monitoring and automated alerts for systems.

Management of systems support group for a major semiconductor design company with 1500+ employees spanning 15 development sites worldwide. Leading a team of 50, responsibilities included ensuring CPU, network and storage capacity in a high growth engineering environment. Focus on maintaining fault tolerant environment, project management, intersite communications, security, planning, budgeting and monitoring of capital expenses and personnel management. Some significant support areas included: • Data Storage and Backup requirements planning.• WAN/LAN/Wireless design, monitoring, maintenance. • Compute Farm / Desktop standardization, planning and maintenance.• Security – policy, patch management, disaster recovery, spam / virus management.• Integration of newly acquired companies.• Core infrastructure services: email, web, authentication, remote access, intersite communications.• Helpdesk operations and issue tracking.

Direct development involved framework and installation programming, publications, and translation/internationalization. Management of all systems administration for development and customer support organizations encompassing 100 software professionals. With 5 reports, responsibilities included systems support, database support (Oracle V7 and SQL-Server), product performance tuning, Internet connectivity, release management, configuration management, internal education and on-site customer support. Additional responsibilities included technical presentations for pre-sales support, requirements planning for hardware and software, budgeting and monitoring of capital expenses and personnel management. In this hands-on position significant contributions included: • Established configuration management system.• Organized benchmark of product and project plan for performance improvements.• Headed the technical release management of Marcam’s first customer release.

Defined, setup and maintained a progressive development environment that was highly productive for software development.
