About Greg Steenbeeke

My expertise is in environmental assessment – in particular in vegetation assessment, monitoring and plant identification in both dry land and wetland habitats - and have accreditation as a Vegetation Expert and Fauna Expert through Accounting for Nature.I have been involved in regional and state-scale vegetation mapping projects, as well as intensive site assessments, for an array of ecological attributes. I hold recognised expertise and accreditations in environmental assessment and stewardship, and property vegetation planning. Apart from life sciences I also have a strong background in geology, governance and policy, and environmental restoration and rehabilitation, as well as community and adult education.Throughout my career I have developed wide-ranging and productive relationships with local, state and federal governments, community, industry and consultants as a means of ensuring outcomes. I have pursued this further by starting and staffing a private-conservation oriented company seeking to acquire and manage lands for conservation outcomes, funded through the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS) processes. To avoid a perception of conflicting interests that arise from my close involvement and financial return from involvement in the BOS, I undertake very few BAM assessments within NSW but am happy for involvement in projects subject to recognition through that process where I can declare the interests and actions undertaken to mitigate these interactions. I am happy to consider projects outside NSW.Through my studies I have gained a BSc (Hons) (Uni of Sydney), Masters in Environmental Management (Uni of New England) and various certificates and diplomas in education (Western Sydney University) and applicable trade skills (through various organisations). I have also studied towards an MSc in population dynamics of a rare plant species in a remote location. An array of papers, presentations and reports I have produced is available at https://sydney.academia.edu/GregSteenbeeke or at my Researchgate profile: Greg Steenbeeke on ResearchGateI occasionally produce software titles on botanical themes under the self-publishing brand, Orkology. Other significant web presences include Google+ and Flickr.
