Senior Fpga Hardware Design EngineerWolf Advanced Technology Oct 2014 - Jun 2015• Worked on a variety of Xilinx/AMD/NVidia Video XMC projects.• Designed and wrote specification for XMC circuit card with nVidia K1 and Xilinx interfacing to a variety of Video interfaces. The Specification is now used as the specification template. • Designed Xilinx Circuits for DVI to SDI, various Video conversions and an AMD6760 to Stanag3350 compliant Video out. -
Fpga DesignerFidus Systems Aug 2013 - Oct 2014• Worked on a variety of internal Xilinx Video and FMC board projects using AXI and Aurora Buses, • Contract Team member at Christie designing Xilinx FPGAs, for video including 3D data handling and final Video out including realignment, line and pixel doubling with Convergence (ability to individually move each colour 2 pixels Horizontally and/or vertically to align colours on screen) -
Hardware Engineering Supervisor And Fpga Design EngineerHarris Corporation Jun 2012 - Jul 201325 Dyas Rd., Toronto• Designed and Lead a multi disciplined team of 11(Hardware, Embedded and FPGAs) , • Worked with employees in developing new Video Broadcast products, supporting and debugging time critical customer issues on all existing products. • Reviewing and setting objectives and schedules. Other responsibilities include reviewing and implementing changes in the company processes/procedures/documentation. • Designed and implemented a new Xilinx VHDL design in an existing Product to convert it into an automatic Video test equipment with an HD/SD video moving test pattern generators, with a library of controlled fault injections and additional controls, to better test products and replicate customer issues. This is the first phase in implementing an automated regression tester for products. • Working with other departments and with remote sites in Ireland, China and the US.• Worked with other departments to consolidate and improve Documentation/Manufacturing databases. -
Fpga DesignerFidus Systems Feb 2010 - Apr 2012• Contract Team Member designing Actel and Xilinx FPGAs, for COM DEVs portion of the satellites for the RADARSTAT Constellation and the M3MSTAT Programs, • Designing portions of the Telemetry interface using CAN bus paying attention to reliability, recoverability and robustness required for operation in space. -
Fpga DesignerL3 Communications Wescam 2007 - Nov 2010• Team member designing an in-house HD multi head airborne surveillance camera with 1080p25/30, 720p50/60, PAL and NTSC outputs. The camera was to improve the turret capability and help maintain the company’s leadership in the market. • Responsible for design, integrating and support of the cameras and the video switching module. Supported introduction to production and sustaining, including resolving customers’ issues.• Worked as video expert to identify issues (design and production); trained and helped junior engineers. -
Asic DesignerGenesis Microchip 2001 - 2007• Facilitated the involvement of Application Engineers (AE) in the pre-silicon test/verification/simulation of the chips. The simulation access provides the AEs with better tools to understand and support customers. The AE’s perspective helps to identify more issues earlier in the process. Additional tasks included support to early adopter customers.• Investigated, communicated and followed up on customer's issues, feature and tool requests. Verified/tested first silicon.• In house expert on IC modules: VBI, MacroVision, 656 and Display Port. Developed Programming model, "work-arounds" and action plans for issues.• Conducted in depth comparison with competitive Television products and investigated strengths and weaknesses.• Recorded live IF/Video/Audio source material in Europe for PAL/SECAM signal and VBI testing this aided in Genesis having the best Teletext performance of any competitor• Designed and integrated functional blocks into ASIC Video/Graphic processors. Worked with remote design centers to incorporate, interface and verify their modules. The largest was an approx. 500k gate video decoder coded verilog inserted into a VHDL design.• Responsible for simulation, verification and testing of blocks and complete systems with ModelSim and FPGAs.• Designed in VHDL and Verilog. Verification of first silicon.• Loaned to the Application Engineering Group to facilitate the technology transfer of the first television chip (Cortez). Supported early adopter customers.• Identified a large cost of leasing obsolete lab equipment; talked to finance and test groups; returned leased equipment and bought new and better suited test equipment which resulted in better productivity and saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in lease costs per year. -
Group Lead Video ProductsUnique Broadband Systems 1998 - 2001• Led DVB group that designed a MPEG2 4:2:2 Encoder and Decoder PP@ML, High speed ASI Links, investigated Video over ATM, investigated and designed, STL, HDTV Decoder using FPGAs, Video Mux, Pay for view for a Lucent Digital Video project• Designed Various Circuit boards and FPGAs• Designed two robust controller/communications boards for the XM Radio local Repeater stations. responsible for communicating to main station, updating hardware and software.s Must always run, recover from issues and survive a lightning strike. -
Member Of Technical StaffHewlett-Packard -Canadian Networks Operation 1993 - 1998Toronto• Team member that developed the routing engine PCAs for a 16 Port, 266 Mbit/Port and a 1 Gbit/Port Fibre Channel Switch. The design comprised of FPGAs, EPLDs, CAMs and DSPs. The FPGAs were designed using Verilog and Synopsys.• Responsible for the design of Architecture, the AT&T and Xilinx FPGAs, DSP, EPLDs and PCB development. • Three Patents are jointly held for routing fairness -
Design EngineerLitton Systems Canada Ltd. 1982 - 199325 Cityview Dr. Rexdale, OntarioDesign Engineer, (1991-1993)• Responsible for the implementation of a next generation RADAR Video Processor circuit card. Design authority for digital hardware in all RADAR products.• Solved Production and Field Service problems.Group Leader, Tiger Team, (1991-1991)• The Tiger Team successfully saving the company from a $500 million lawsuit.• One of three Group Leader in “Tiger Team” responsible for modifying, in 8 weeks, two of four Commercial Airborne Radar subsystems, to be compliant to MIL-STD-5400.• Directed team members in subjecting subsystems to Military test conditions, analyzing failures, simulating faulty circuits, making design changes, simulating modifications with dynamic timing analysis and then implementing and testing circuits.Design Engineer, Display Systems, (1989-1991)• Designed circuit cards for a Graphics Processor for an Airborne Liquid Crystal Display.• Designed/built an aircraft (C-130) simulator that produced all electrical signals including 1553, ARINC 429 and synchros for testing a “GLASS COCKPIT” system.
