This assignment enabled me to leverage my manufacturing experience as a Plastics Engineer in plants and leading the Plastics and Stamping Rotational programs for a decade with my Engineering Systems Leadership experience to begin the journey to introduce Digital or Smart Factory capabilities into TE factories globally. This was one of my most exciting and rewarding roles for me to date albeit one of the most challenging as plants varied in terms of size, products manufactured, skill level of plant employees, and value expectations. Digital Factory capabilities introduced (MES, unlocking IIoT data to make it Contextual/Consumable/Actionable, Tiered Accountability Boards, providing quality inspection results to the factory floor, monitors across the plants to increase transparency, Digital Work Instructions, Digital ANDON, etc) resulted in ~$40M savings in FY19 across 40+ plants. The keys to Digital Factory transformation are 1) ensure that ALL people from Operators to Plant Managers to Ops Leader are involved with key Value expectations and understanding of "Why" change is needed, 2) capabilities are prioritized by the plants and 3) recognition that change fatigue can be very real (need to listen and follow progress to ensure Transformation is sustainable. Much more remains but the foundation appears solid as Digital Factory capabilities with continue to evolve and scale across other plants.
Engineering/Plm Architect
Leveraging my broad engineering and manufacturing experience including IT roles with CAD/CAE/PLM to focus on the evolution of TE's Engineering Systems including PLM and integrations with other corporate systems like ERP/SAP. During this time I also coordinated the engineers systems side of TE's acquisition engine to quickly assimilate acquisitions into the TE engineering ecosystem and facilitated the engineering side of divestures.
Engineering Systems Manager
As an Engineering Systems Manager I had many different roles which exposed me to all aspects of Engineering Systems and prepared me to assume a broader Architect and Digital Transformational positions later. I was responsible for 1) proprietary CAE development and proliferation of CAE tools across the company, 2) CAD standardization and Development including evolution of 2D to 3D, 3) CAM support, and ultimately 4) PLM solutions including Engineering Change Management, CAD Management, Compliance Management, an internal Document Delivery solution which delivered in excess of 150k docs per day to internal engineers, AMP/TE manufacturing plants, suppliers and customers. During this time I also had responsibility for an early version of an eCatalog solution and an internally developed Central Part Registry solution.
Plastics Engineer
I was part of the first class of Plastics Rotational Engineers and later assumed responsibility to lead this innovative accelerated Plastics & Stamping Rotational training program which took engineering students and exposed them to various facets of the work environment to prepare them as future Engineering Leaders and enable them to efficiently enter the engineering world at AMP. During this time I introduced AMP to Moldflow including being a Moldflow instructor and also taught GD&T. I also worked as a Mold/Plastics Engineer at TE for several years before moving into IT.
