We are at an unprecedented time in the history of the Department of Education. For decades principals have relied on specific direction from annual review feedback from Directors on how to run multiple aspects of their schools. The number of schools achieving Independent status is increasing and the implementation of Student Centred Funding initiates a One line budget where all principals will have new freedom to deploy the resources they believe will help to yield success for their students. Also in many regions will be school communities who have either elected not to seek Independent status, or who are still struggling with many challenges in their location and context. More than ever principals will be seeking clear direction, overt leadership, supportive advice, reassurance and encouragement to boost their skills and confidence to achieve higher student outcomes. I know what works in metropolitan and regional schools and I am seeking new experiences that will draw upon my significant successes.
