Manage the day to day operations of the San Marcos Electric Utility. Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the City's electric distribution system.

Manage the day to day operation of the southern half of AE’s electric distribution system including distribution system design and construction, downtown network design and construction, illumination construction and maintenance, electric facility maintenance, and distribution design and construction standards. Responsible for meeting with and making presentations to various City of Austin boards and commissions, and the administrations of surrounding communities within AE’s service territory. This division has 168 FTE’s, (including 3 registered professional engineers) and an $11 million annual O&M budget.

Selected for Austin Energy’s Executive Development Program in February 2009. As part of the Executive Development Program, held the position of Acting Vice-President of Electric Service Delivery for eight months from July 2009 to March 2010. Responsible for engineering, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Austin Energy’s (AE’s) Transmission, Substation, and Distribution Infrastructure. The business unit has a 540 person staff and yearly budget responsibilities for a $100 Million CIP budget and a $62 Million O&M budget.

Managed 4 engineers, and 2 business systems analysts responsible for updating the distribution system maintenance program, and establishing system coordination studies utilizing Milsoft Windmill applications. Specified and procured distribution system equipment such as reclosers, capacitors, remote operated air switches, and switchgear. Initiated the effort to establish ESD’s mobile mapping, and mobile workforce applications. Served on the Incident Command team in the Energy Control Center during the January 2007 ice storm.

Managed 4 FTE’s responsible for specifying, procuring, factory acceptance testing and commissioning of AE’s substation and transmission system equipment ranging in voltage from 12.5 kV to 345 kV. Equipment included power transformers and autotransformers from 30 MVA to 480 MVA, circuit breakers, and medium voltage switchgear. Responsible for updating and maintaining the substation and transmission maintenance programs, and assisting maintenance personnel in troubleshooting power system equipment problems. Major Accomplishments – Established, and maintained over 40 supply agreement contracts for power system equipment including large power transformers, circuit breakers, insulators, switches, steel, conductor, arrestors, and medium voltage switchgear. Wrote and witnessed acceptance testing procedures for over 30 large power transformers and autotransformers. Worked with vendors to resolve equipment failure issues, both in and out of warranty. Responsible for specifying, procuring and commissioning AE’s 138 kV gas-insulated substations and AE’s first and only 138 kV, 110 MVAr STATCOM installation. Developed AE’s transmission line maintenance program utilizing CASCADE condition based maintenance application. This program included developing a routine inspection program that includes infra-red thermagraphy, partial discharge detection, and visual inspection. The maintenance program provides budgetary and resource forecasting for planned maintenance, and capturing the cost of both planned and unplanned maintenance activities.

Designed and commissioned substation, distribution, and transmission protection, control, and communication systems for AE’s substation and transmission system. This included the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of relay/control panels, and substation equipment control and monitoring systems.
