A co-founder and MD of FlexiDRILL Ltd - a New Zealand based drilling R&D lab focused on collaborating with global partners to resolve specific challenges.For approx. 20 years I led a talented group of engineers, designers and technicians working with global companies such as;Vermeer, Schlumberger, and Boart Longyear, focusing on challenges such as;Steerable drilling assemblies in hard rock HDD applicationsMinimizing helical buckling via vibratory devices in extended reach coil tube interventionsIncreasing the drilling performance of down hole tools in flooded hard rock applications not suited to Pneumatic hammers.Particular highlights were the design / development of the world's first down hole hammer that worked with any non-compressible fluid - including recycled drilling muds with rudimentary recycling systems.Following the sale of FlexiDRILL to an ASX listed METS company, I founded CoreMAX to focus on unique - safe rod and inner tube handling systems that reduce unproductive wireline cycle time in Diamond core drilling by enabling long core runs, regardless of the rigs mast length - or spatial constraints.This area is without doubt the single biggest opportunity for increased productivity / profitability within the core drilling industry, an area that has seen CoreMAX become the global leader.
