• Translate national policy and broader Water Framework Directive initiatives into guidance, operational instructions and tools to ensure consistent implementation• Provide technical support to River Basin Managers, morphology pressure leads, Environment & Business and EA Area teams (Flood and Coastal Risk Mamangement, Analysis & Reporting, Fisheries & Biodiversity, Water Resources)• Develop and deliver a Technical Development Framework to address all staff capability issues and ensure that the required training is delivered• Respond to changing work priorities throughout the Water Framework Directive planning cycles to ensure resources and guidance is available when required• Lead on development of a strategic hydromorphological restoration planning process• Ensure greater integration of Water Framework Directive hydromorphology (integrating flow regime and morphology quality elements) on new works (e.g. Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects)• Ensure greater integration between national operations and Environment & Business and between functions at EA Area level

Responsible for overall delivery of project outputs (an ecologically coherent network of Marine Conservation Zones in the Irish Sea), maintaining a strong working relationship with a group of regional stakeholders (including BMAPA, The Crown Estate, the MMO, Natural England and JNCC), and ensuring that the project is delivered in line with the requirements of the SNCBs and Defra. A key component of the project was ensuring that the best available evidence was used to underpin the identification of Marine Conservation Zones ahead of submission of the recommended network to the SNCBs and Defra. Responsible for the management of nine project team members (Economist, Communications Manager, MPA planner, Marine Ecologist, GIS/data officer, two Liaison Officers and a Project Assistant).Responsible for a project budget in exces of £1.5 millionMany MCZs have now been designated in UK law.

Geomorphological, sedimentological and geochronological analyses to decipher the effects of Quaternary environmental change on the development of the Rio Bergantes, Ebro basin, northeast Spain. Field mapping and profiling utilising large-scale aerial photography and airborne LiDAR data has identified a sequence of six river terraces. Age control, provided by luminescence dating methods, has revealed two major phases of valley floor aggradation at ~ 183 - 130 ka (Terrace BT1, elevated ~ 25 m above the modern river channel) and ~ 111-26.8 ka (BT2, ~ 18-20 m), punctuated by ~ 20 m of incision in the intervening period. Following these two phases of large-scale aggradation, the Bergantes river system adjusted to a more sediment limited regime and responded to environmental changes through a series of smaller cut and fill cycles. This resulted in four lower elevation terraces (BT3-BT6) inset within the older (BT1 and BT2) valley fills. These lower terraces have been temporally constrained at ~ 24.5-14.2 ka (BT3); 10.6-9.8 ka (BT4); 8.3-6.2 ka (BT5) and ~ 3 ka (BT6).
