I am the founder of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and a descendant of the Deer Creek Band of Northern Sierra Miwok. My people have been here for more than 10,000 years. Miners displaced and massacred my tribe and forced us from our homeland- the current site of Nevada City and Grass Valley. My family's life has been forever changed.I have spent my life in the Sierra Nevada Mountains living by the examples of my elders — developing a passion for community, clean streams, big mountains and long trails.I am an entrepreneur, a trailblazer and the pioneer of backcountry mountain biking in Downieville, establishing Yuba Expeditions guide service in 1991 and the Downieville Classic mountain bike festival in 1995. In 2003 I founded the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in order to maintain and enhance the trail system, create local jobs, and grow the recreation economy in the Lost Sierra region.The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is a 501c3 non-profit, based in Quincy California and is in the business of revitalizing mountain communities using trails as the tool. The organization employs upwards of 70 Plumas and Sierra County residents (youth and adults) and has built 176 miles of new trail and maintained over 2,300 miles of trail on National Forest lands.
