Scientist Iii
Responsible for a variety of analyses supporting R&D, business and production as well as process troubleshooting. Primarily involved with lipidomics and lipophilic analytes from biological sources. Methods of analysis include SFC and HPLC with tandem high resolution mass spectrometry.
Scientist Iii
I performed method development and validation for the analysis of small molecules in drug substance and product formulations. Methods typically involved HPLC with UV detection. I was also responsible for our departments two LC-QToF and one GC-QToF.
Graduate Student
I completed my graduate research under Dr. William LaCourse. My research focus was ambient mass spectrometry, specifically source design and construction. I developed an ionization platform utilizing Desorption Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (DAPCI). The system, which has become known as the Molecular Ionization Desorption Analysis Source (MIDAS) uses a system of interchangeable sampling plates to allow for rapid experimental analysis. The device is well suited for the analysis of planar samples such as thin layer chromatography plates. In addition, standard 96 well and 384 spot plates can be used for rapid screening of large numbers of samples. Custom software allows for automated sample analysis and data acquisition. As the device is controlled apart from the mass spectrometer, MIDAS can also be fit to a variety of mass spectrometers with atmospheric pressure inlets with minimal effort. In addition to my graduate research I assisted with projects in the Molecular Characterization and Analysis Complex (MCAC) at UMBC. These responsibilities included sample analysis by techniques such as GC-MS, HPLC-MS, Offline-MS and UV-Vis.
Manufacturing Technician
Responsible for small scale production of commercial products, specifically chemical tablets used in reagent delivery systems for hospital based laboratory tests. Provide technical support to reagent manufacturing and research and development. Trouble-shooting mechanical issues in the manufacturing process
Lab Intern
College Internship: Jun-Aug 2008, Jun-Aug 2009 and January 2010My responsibilities included culturing a variety of microorganisms including yeasts ad algae. I screened them to determine their growth rate and lipid content. This involved preparing culture medium, inoculating the cultures and harvesting the cultures by centrifugation. The lipid content was determined by generating fatty acid methyl esters and quantitating the esters using gas chromatography.
