We founded Leadership+Design to make schools and school leadership more creative, human, and joyful. Since then, we've grown into an established nonprofit, with eight salaried partners and several adjunct collaborators, that has worked with hundreds of schools across the country.As a Partner, I design and lead strategic planning, identity development (e.g. mission and vision, Portraits of a Graduate, and inclusion statements), leadership development programs, and new academic initiatives for a wide range of schools, with a particular focus on building the cultural muscle to enact positive change.

I partnered with the Head of School to complete an ambitious agenda during a time of transition for this well-established, PS-12 school. Specific elements of my portfolio included:Teaching and Learning• Spearheaded the school's transition to Remote Learning during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic• Led Department Chairs and Academic Leadership Team meetings;• Allocated Professional Development Grants, led workshops, and developed in-house summer institutes on teaching and learning;• Led the development of a new all-school maker space and maker education program;• Led successful national searches for five senior and academic leadership positions;• Coordinated external audit process for K-5 math program and student support services;• Launched place-based learning initiative in Lower School, partnering with Tetons Science Schools• Supervised the Directors of Educational Technology, Experiential and Place-Based Learning, and Design Labs;Strategy and Identity• Facilitated the development of a new, board-adopted mission statement for the school;• Led faculty and staff to develop a Portrait of a Graduate outlining the enduring, transdisciplinary skills the school aspires to the develop over 15 years of a child's development;• Facilitated development of a board-adopted, school Inclusion StatementEnrollment and Marketing• Managed the school's marketing and communications team, developing a marketing and communications plan, and leading development of new marketing materials in line with our emerging vision for teaching and learning• Coordinated a Retention Task Force that pulled together multiple departments to develop a comprehensive strategy to reduce attrition. Successfully reduced attrition by more than half year-over-year.• Served as Interim Director of Enrollment Management, in Spring 2020, leading the school's transition to a virtual admissions process

Our team moved this young, progressive 6-12 day school from annual deficits to a place of financial and programmatic stability. Together, we:• Led successful rebrand and the creation of a new mission statement.• 82% growth to reach full enrollment. Reduced reliance on aid to fill seats. Improved retention from 65% to 91%.• 91% family participation in Annual Fund. Led successful fundraising for an Art Studio, IDEAS Kitchen (maker space), gym remodel, on-campus science lab, Mobile Science Lab, and faculty workspaces.• Developed 10-year financial model to guide strategic thinking on tuition, salaries, financial aid, and options for campus acquisition. Grew cash reserves by 400%. Tuition increases were held to 3-3.5%. Exceeded the budgeted surplus every year.• Created salary scale moving salaries to the 75th percentile of peer schools or above. Increased IRA match from 3% to 5%. • Tripled the number of arts courses, including new electives in drama, filmmaking, design, dance, and music. • Improved math instruction by staffing all math sections with full-time teachers (previously only 37% of math sections staffed FT); added 10 contact days.• Facilitated a yearlong design thinking initiative that led to a new grading scale and transcript.• Reoriented May Term as a signature program offering global immersion for every HS student, with new program sites in Peru, Cambodia, Iceland, and China.• Launched partnerships with Boulder businesses that led to new programs, such as Startup Weekend Boulder Youth and an “Entrepreneurship+Design” course held at a startup incubator.• Improved focus on social-emotional health through emphasis on character education, community programming, new parent education series, and new Director of Social-Emotional Learning.• Created Traverse, an annual education conference attracting a national audience. • Led 3-year ACIS accreditation process and achieved accreditation for the first time in the school's history.

• Launched and directed new K-5 summer program;• Developed new courses in world literature, world history, African-American literature, Southern literature, Race and Ethnicity, and Comparative Religion. Co-created a new, interdisciplinary Humanities course for 10th grade.• Project Week Coordinator: coordinated a week-long, school-wide experiential learning program that sent 491 kids anywhere from Washington State to Uruguay.• Service Learning Director: created a new "Service Leaders" program and led schoolwide Service Days where all 491 students engaged in purposeful service learning.• Advisory Team Leader: led a team of five teachers and coordinated student life for the senior class.• Facilitated groups of 50-200 students on the NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) Faculty, in 2007, in Boston, Massachusetts.• Led several 3-day student leadership retreats for Rainier Scholars, a 12-year program that offers a pathway to college graduation for low-income students of color.• After leaving Overlake as a faculty member, was hired as an independent consultant to facilitate the school's Diversity Strategic Plan in partnership with the board, faculty, and staff.
