• Wrote and edited press releases, editorials, speeches, and talking points for Assemblywoman Grove on topics ranging from lawsuit abuse, union reform, water policy, sex trafficking, Second Amendment, and freedom of religion and speech rights. • Stewarded several bills all the way through the legislative process on the following topics: sex trafficking, freedom of association on college campuses, protecting religious liberty in regards to abortion insurance mandates. • Produced and directed two policy videos. One highlights how attorneys hurt the state’s business climate using California’s Private Attorney General Act to file thousands of frivolous lawsuits against small businesses. The other video features Kern County farmers explaining how the state’s environmental policies contribute to California’s water shortage problems. The water video has 380,000 views on Facebook. • Managed Assemblywoman Grove’s Facebook page and increased “likes” from 2,000 to 10,000.

Orange County, California Area

• Coordinate town halls as team leader for Senator Walters on a variety of topics including, prescription drug abuse, identity theft and fraud against seniors, and Americans with Disability Act compliance. Organized print and social media advertising, speaker recruitment, and press and community relations. • Edit, write articles for, and coordinate coverage of the Senator’s district activities and legislative initiatives as editor for monthly eNewsletter to over 70,000 constituents.• Speak on the Senator’s behalf at chamber of commerce government affairs meetings, ribbon cuttings, and award ceremonies.• At the request of a constituent, proposed legislation to the Senator’s senior staff to help stop international child abductions. SB 1206 was signed by the governor in 2012 to make it more difficult for one parent to leave with a child overseas without consent from the other parent.

• Organized and coordinated voter registration drives at 36 churches in Northern Colorado for the 2010 election year. This involved personally persuading religious leaders to participate, and recruiting and training over 100 volunteers with webinar technology. • Coordinated two 8-hour grassroots political training seminars for 55 paying students.• Developed contacts and spoke at Tea-Party, 9-12, and Republican Party organizations in Northern Colorado in order to promote the goals of the Faith & Freedom Coalition.

Westminster, Colorado

• Part-time venture that offered investigative journalism and media relation services to clients interested in getting their message to the public through various media outlets. • Published a series of stories on blogs exposing the illegal activity of a Longmont city council member. The stories generated local newspaper coverage and the council member lost her reelection bid in November 2009 by 22 percentage points.

Westminster, Colorado

• Sold coupon and online advertising to businesses in the Denver metro area. In just over four months, working part-time, I signed up 21 new small business advertisers for Weekly Plus services and sold additional advertising to existing customers. • Developed business relationships and leads for Weekly Plus, Inc., as an ambassador for the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce and the Metro North Chamber of Commerce.

Denver, Colorado

• Responsible for creating the Representative's Facebook page and email newsletter using Constant Contacts. • Wrote and edited press releases and email newsletters related to legislation the Representative supported or opposed.• Responsible for resolving problems constituents were having with state government agencies.

Public Relations/ Community Liaison• Coordinated events for the Congresswoman that generated positive media coverage. One veteran’s event attracted coverage from three newspapers and three television stations. • Spoke on the Congresswoman’s behalf at luncheons, breakfast clubs, award ceremonies, and ribbon cuttings. I was interviewed by a television station and discussed Wall Street bailout legislation. • Built personal relationships with local government and community leaders as the Congresswoman’s liaison. These leaders were part of the following organizations: State legislature, city council, chamber of commerce, law enforcement, school board, American Legion, and various other non-profit and government agencies.• Experienced at defusing high tension situations with customers such as a meeting with 20 plus anti-war protestors to hear their complaints about the Congresswoman’s support for the Iraq war. • Responsible for drafting and editing editorials for the Congresswoman and updating the congressional website.Case Work/ Office Manager• Managed two congressional offices • Personally helped over 600 constituents struggling with problems related to federal, state, and local government. For instance this involved meeting with state legislators at the state capitol to address problems such as prison violence and drug addicted infants; working with various law enforcement agencies including the FBI regarding an investment fraud case; and dealing with U.S. embassies around the world regarding denied visa applications.

Writing• Wrote, edited and laid-out articles for five company newsletters, which informed 30,000 financial advisors and over 100,000 about retirement legislation.• Coordinated marketing materials through the production, bidding and printing process. • Redesigned company website to increase ease of use, which doubled the number of visits per month. Graphic Design• Designed a company newsletter that helped increase company loyalty, improve morale, and educate employees. • Created a variety of 2-color and 4-color printed marketing materials (brochures, booklet covers, direct marketing fliers) using QuarkXpress, PhotoShop, and Illustrator.

Reporting• Wrote and took photographs for 900 plus articles related to city and county government, law enforcement, fire department, public education, and high school sports.• Won two Colorado Press Association awards. One for an editorial about the Columbine High School shootings and the other for an investigative article that uncovered corruption within the county treasurer’s office.• Conducted hundreds of interviews with important public officials including city council members, city mayors, district attorneys, police chiefs, county commissioners, state and federal legislators, and Governor Bill Owens. • Cultivated good rapport with a variety of sources in order to come up with a daily stream of article ideas. These articles then had to be written under strict deadlines. Research• Examined and studied numerous county financial documents in order to write a series of articles about the poor investment practices of the county treasurer. These articles won a first place Landmark Community Newspaper Award for Best News/Feature Story series. • Evaluated thousands of police reports, county court documents, and city and county legislation to validate and generate story ideas. • Gathered information from 150 plus city council and county commissioner meetings in order to write stories of interest for newspaper readers.
