Substitute Teachers and Volunteers play a vital role at Creative Growth Art Center and are active participants in the daily life of the studio. In both capacities, I encourage individual artists to find their own path to creativity and also provide additional support for events and gallery preparations. Creative Growth's philosophy is to support creation, not to direct it. Located in Oakland, California, Creative Growth Art Center serves adult artists with developmental, mental and physical disabilities, providing a professional studio environment for artistic development, gallery exhibition and representation and a social atmosphere among peers.

I enjoyed teaching adults with disabilities about graphic design, good "digital hygiene" practices and providing hands-on training in Adobe Creative Suite. As part of my position I developed a class called "Creative Suite for the Office Set" which teaches office professionals about the basics of desktop publishing. The class debuts in February 2011.

I worked closely with 2 teachers, several volunteers and eight teenagers on a disaster-preparedness-themed design project called "Shaking Things Up." I enjoyed photo-documenting the creative process, teaching teens about design and encouraging each student to consider a future graphic design career.

For four years I worked to strategically elevate The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, one of the top encylopedic fine art museums in the United States. In my role as Graphic Designer I strategically guided design and marketing teams in translating the institution’s marketing messages, visual brand and content into fresh and original high-caliber branded communications that excited and engaged audiences. I led visual communication team efforts during the Museum's campus expansion that featured a new building designed by star architect Steven Holl. Projects included media such as exhibition collateral and graphics, website design and support, online interactive projects, email campaigns, plasma-screen signage & kiosks, membership collateral, advertising, promotions, event and development campaigns. I served on the Editorial Review Board and the Electronic Communications Team. I worked one-on-one with clients at all levels to meet institutional goals including projects for the Director, Marketing Communications, Membership, Development, Exhibition Design, Events Planning, Education, Curatorial and Information Technology departments and others. I also oversaw the work of a junior designer and intern who created electronic marketing communications. I art directed freelance designers, photographers and assistants to meet goals, budgets and deadlines, always delivering successful results and materials of impeccable quality.

As a Graphic Designer at the University of Missouri-Kansas City I managed and designed multiple deadline-driven projects with high-standards from concept to completion in collaboration with editors, teams, clients and vendors, meeting production goals, budgets and deadlines. I was paired with an editor/writer as part of a creative team to produce a large variety of publications from postcards, brochures and invites to magazines, annual reports and print advertising. As a client team we worked with individuals as well as schools and large committees within UMKC. Projects ranged from student recruitment and retention, to alumni relations, donor support and development, event planning, institutional and constituent campaigns. My client focus included the Office of the Chancellor, UMKC Gallery of Art, Conservatory of Music and Dance, College of Arts and Sciences, Office of Development, Entrepreneurial Growth Resource Center, Maternal & Child Health Coalition, Women's Center, and more.

As a Graphic Designer at the University of Kansas I managed and designed deadline-driven projects from concept to completion in collaboration with editors, photographers, clients and vendors. I met production goals, budgets and deadlines to deliver successful communications projects to the targeted audience. I worked with an editor as part of several creative teams to produce a variety of award-winning student recruitment, constituent relations and alumni marketing communications projects for all ages, from newsletters and brochures to magazines and annual reports. I art directed an alumni magazine for the KU Medical Center campus, working closely with a writing team, freelance illustrators and photographers to produce this semi-annual publication.
