About Greg Worthington

Greg is a doctoral candidate in the Educational Policy and Planning Program. He has earned a Bachelors of Science in General Mathematics at the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master of Education in Educational Policy and Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. Between earning those degrees, Greg taught high school mathematics to underserved inner-city students in Edgewood ISD and Northside ISD in San Antonio, Texas. Generally, Greg's research interests in education policy include social justice, market-based education reform, community development, policy implementation, Xicanx/Latinx studies, critical race theory, and mixed methods analysis. Specifically, his research interests involve the effects of charter schools on traditional neighborhood public schools, the effect of economic revitalization programs on education in impoverished contexts, improving education and schooling experiences for Xicanx/Mexican immigrant students, and alternative forms of assessment to high-stakes standardized testing. Greg also has training and experience in public speaking, interpersonal communications, cross-cultural competencies, racial reconciliation, mobilizing young people in community service, servant leadership, and leadership development. Additionally, he has received hands-on training in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis. Greg has written for the Huffington Post, the San Antonio Express-News, and The Rivard Report. He is also a member of the team that carried out the #BeLikeDarsh campaign.
