I’m a partner and head of the international arbitration practice of Mishcon de Reya LLP. I have a particular focus on the effective resolution of disputes in the energy, resources, infrastructure and construction sectors, as well as international investment arbitration and public international law. I’m the UK delegate for the ICC Global Commission for Arbitration and ADR, the world’s premier multi-jurisdictional forum for advancing the practice of international arbitration. I’m also the co-founder and a former Director of Delos Dispute Resolution, an independent arbitration institution that promotes quality, flexibility, and time and cost efficiency in the resolution of international disputes.I’ve represented both claimants and respondents in large complex international arbitrations worth billions of dollars, and before major arbitral institutions including the ICC, LCIA, ICSID, CIETAC, LMAA as well as ad hoc arbitration proceedings. I also sit as an arbitrator, including appointments as sole arbitrator. I’ve advised: on State-State disputes pursuant to public international law, including conducting advocacy before eminent international tribunals; both investors and State claimants in investment treaty arbitrations; parties in commercial and investment arbitrations in a range of sectors including construction, energy, infrastructure, transport, mining and natural resources, real estate, telecoms and international trade. Before joining Mishcon, I was a partner at global law firm Eversheds Sutherland where I spent 14 years, prior to that I worked at a UK 'magic circle' law firm. I’ve spent time at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL), and at the public international law team Chatham House. But law is my second career - I’m also a qualified construction manager and I worked as a construction project manager in the UK and South Africa, gaining experience on construction projects with architectural firms and construction contractors.
