I conduct research and write programming on prevention of financial crime and money laundering for conferences, seminars and webinars held around the world for an organization with approximately 200,000 members. I work extensively with subject-matter experts from banks, regulatory agencies and law enforcement agencies.

I was a research fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, focusing on the causes and effects of the 2008 financial crisis. My work was published in academic journals, on the center's blog, and as an e-book compilation.

I taught both graduate and undergraduate courses at Hong Kong Baptist's School of Communications, including courses on financial journalism and multimedia content production.

I was a member of the faculty of Tsinghua University's graduate program in business journalism, creating courses in topics that included international trade, global financial markets and the effects of rapid modernization on Chinese society and culture.

I was the original director of FIU's business journalism program, creating all coursework, writing all syllabi and mentoring students as well as assisting their placement in jobs and internships in professional media organizations.

As the senior business reporter at The Miami Herald, I covered numerous national and local economic subjects, including the US financial markets, Federal Reserve policy and the "dotcom" bust. I spearheaded investigative projects on issues including welfare reform, discriminatory patterns in mortgage lending and income inequality in the Miami metropolitan region. My work won numerous journalism awards and I was a member of the staff that won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of Hurricane Andrew.
