A PC is responsible for staffing the positions at the polling locations each May & November. Additional duties include the selection of candidates at slating conventions and occasionally, the appointment of a local Judges in the event of a vacancy. In 2013 I was honored to be selected as 2013 Precinct Committeeman of the Year for Decatur Township and for Marion County.

The neighborhood was featured in the Indiana Landmarks "Back To The Future" Mid-Century Modern Home Tour in July 2023; two homes (including ours) were included in the tour.

By use of fundraisers, we provide funds for materials and resources to the classrooms, contribute to scholarships, host school student social functions, and organize or contribute to programs to promote teacher/student relationships. The PTO also provides a connection point for parents seeking to be more involved in their school.

ChairmanCitizens For Decatur Township Jan 2019 - May 2019Decatur Township, Indianapolis, InCitizens for Decatur Township Schools is a Political Action Committee formed to get out the vote for the referendum which was on the ballot in the May 2019 primary; a property tax increase to fund the General Fund of the Dec Twp School Corp was proposed. The school found itself operating on reduced income after the property tax caps and had depleted all surplus funds to stay out of the red. At risk if we lost, was the closing of certain important schools and programs. The school personnel are able to provide financial information but are prohibited from promoting themselves. That's where the PAC came in. We held dozens of community forums and walked door to door getting the word out. I spoke as a resident, business owner, and Realtor about the foreseeable negative impact on the local market that school closing would have. We had won in 2014 but that referendum tax would end in 2021. So in 2019 we ran again and won again with the same overwhelming 2:1 margin!
