I have been passionate about the pre-hospital care and treatment of people since I was just a young man. I began my career as a high-school student; attending EMT classes in the evening and riding on the ambulance on weekends. My belief in helping my fellow man later drew me into the U.S. Coast Guard, paramedic school, and ultimately into the employment of an emergency medical services organization; where I have spent the past 27 years.As I gained experience in the industry, it became clear to me that, although we do an excellent job of taking care of others, we do little to care for ourselves and our peers. Although my entry into the world of Safety & Risk was quite accidental, it became life altering. My passion for helping others has shifted to helping our patients and employees, and keeping them safe. I have adopted the phrase “everyone has the right to go home in at least the same condition that they came in”, and this has become one of my guiding principles.
