I left the paid workforce and the government in July 2015, but I am staying busy as a volunteer. I volunteer in 'advanced' status as a Tax Preparer for AARP and for Fairfax County during tax season. And I used to think my taxes were complicated :) The best part of this work are the clients I have the opportunity to work for. A very diverse group of people from cultures, careers and economic circumstances, but they are a delight!I also volunteer for the County Recreation Centers in the Fitness Center. In that capacity, I have opportunity to learn and instruct customers on the use of equipment; I repair and maintain equipment; replenish supplies; and do a variety of other tasks to include database work, minor construction or deconstruction. But, again, the best part of the work is the facility patrons. Though I only work 4 hours a week by assignment, my family of patrons knows me and will approach me on any concerns or needs regardless of whether I am on duty or working out. The 'Kinetic Chain' is a marvel to learn and understand...we truly have an amazing body. I sing in an 80 audition voice choir, play trumpet in a community band and am beginning a new service opportunity to bring music to seniors living in retirement homes--a memory center. I also spend 30 minutes each Sunday, at church, leading a music time with 18 month to 3 year olds (what a blast!). With the remaining time, I enjoy outdoor activity, working out and am continuing my study of piano performance as well as music composition. I have maintained a continuous workout routine following the practices I have learned and have had to purchase a new wardrobe. And I have a series of music compositions reflecting my studies in music composition. Regardless of my activities, I continue to pursue my mantra of continuous learning, creating value and making a positive contribution to those endeavors I engage.

Pentagon, Office Of The Asst Chief Of Staff, Installation Management

Engaged in developing an understanding of resourcing Installation Services for Army Installations, supporting systems and data sources, cost relationships, the Army PPBE process and statistical methods to enable modeling of future requirements to support rapid decision making, what if analysis, and the agility to respond to constrained resources.* Offered a draft model sketch which has become the core concept for work on an Installation Services Decision Framework* Developed a requirements business process map for the Installations Program Evaluation Group. Then worked with a team to expand the map through the Army POM to Budget to Resource Execution* Provided instruction and clarification on an internal Linear Regression process to forecast future installation service costs* Briefed a $400M/year package of installation commander staff activities to the Requirements Validation Team* Provide technical assistance and advice for a large model contract. Documented all mandated forms and artifacts (financial, system purpose, enterprise architecture, FISMA compliance) in the Army Portfolio Management System (APMS)* Subject Matter Expert on the Army Program Resource Data Warehouse (PPB BOS / PROBE); provides regular instruction to other analysts in the use of Microsoft Access database application.* Trained and experienced with the Decision Lens decision application.

Improved the administrative activities and communications for a Directorate which includes three Divisions engaged in very different technology-related activity and geographically dispersed. This has improved employee information awareness, achieving suspenses, and added teeth to budget and other administrative requests. Within my Division, we have exponentially increased our ability to apply sound principles of Portfolio Management, Enterprise Architecture and Governance to enable the Army's Financial Community to engage its Business Transformation strategy, but also lead and contribute across the Army Staff in developing and strengthening the Army's Enteprise approach to its business activities.Piloted an initiative to combine our office products from Portfolio Management Inventories and Enterprise Architecture to generate a visual display of Army Target Systems, Legacy Systems, and Interfaces to provide a financial systems artifact which will help guide the Army's efforts to produce auditable financial statements in the next several years. This product has been one of the first emerging products of our EA and PfM investments which tells an understandable story to financial professionals not possessing deep technical IT knowledge. This particular architectural visual provides a substantive roadmap that supports the Army's efforts to attain audit readiness as mandated by recent law. .

Provided analytical support to maximize the Army's distribution of its 400,000 enlisted force globally during a time of war. Integrated HR data from several disparate sources creating decision support tools to optimize and prioritize distribution and to improve key and essential information supporting organizational decision making. Developed a single data source for critical dates associated with Army unit Life Cycle Management. Developed a comprehensive inventory of over 250 individual programs and captured system interfaces, data sources, and outputs. This enabled us to make changes to programs and understand relationships to other programs minimizing break points and enabling the eventual integration of programs and focus towards authoritative data sources.

Responsible for IT services supporting an organization of 400 personnel and a financial community that spanned the Army across the globe. Provide core customer-focused services, operated a LAN consisting of over 40 servers, operated and shaped critical business applications supporting the development and justification of the Army's $100B a year budget, implemented a strong Information Security program and participated in initiatives to shape future Enterprise operations. My office was responsible for the recovery, reconstitution and direct support to our 400 employees disbursed and impacted by the Sep 11th terrorist attack on the Pentagon. Within a couple of days we restored several instances of local IT capabilities, within a week we provided a means for users to access and operate shared services from wherever they couuld find a place to operate, and within a few weeks, we restored full business application operations.

Participated as part of a small team which developed a fully operational, prototype of a data warehouse for two Army elements in the Pentagon. Provided PPBE expertise while reciprocally learning data warehouse principles. The customer's organization wasn't prepared for this new technology and would not select a Business Intelligence user interface. I was sought out by my next employer for more stable work.

Completed a 20 year Army career, achieving the rank of LIeutenant Colonel. Served at all echelons of organization with three DC area assignments, two in the Pentagon. My services disciplines included: Human Resources, Comptrollership, Operations and Research Analyst, and typical Army unit positions. Awarded the Legion of Merit upon departure.
