At the Port of Portland, I answer incoming emergency and non emergency phone calls, and radio traffic. This includes the emergency and non-emergency 10 Digit numbers exclusive to the Portland International Airport, and 911 calls transferred to our center by the Portland City 911 System (BOEC), or other agencies. I triage emergency calls and dispatch police, fire, medical, maintenance, and operations units with various capabilities (including watercraft and ground units). Unlike traditional 911, however, at the Port we specialize in and focus on building/asset security, and aviation security. The Portland International Airport provides a dynamic and complex environment to dispatch emergency services in and requires specialized knowledge and additional attention. Airport emergency services see all of the same calls that city or county level 911 would see, with the addition of aviation security related incidents. Additionally, I review CCTV footage all over our jurisdiction to gather first hand information about calls for responding units, assist with various customer service needs, and help to coordinate a variety of departments all around the airport in both emergency and pre-planned events, as well as coordinating with neighboring agencies for mutual aid assistance.

Newberg, Oregon, United States

At the City of Newberg, I work as a 911 operator and a Police Dispatcher within the Newberg-Dundee Police Department. My daily duties include answering both non-emergency phone calls to the police department, as well as 911 phone lines; working a two way police radio system, and maintaining police records information. These tasks are almost entirely completed on a computer. Both 911 and non-emergency police calls can require strong problem solving abilities, as well as the ability to make sound decisions and to remain calm under pressure. Other duties involve processing local municipal warrants, purging or storing records in accordance to applicable laws, processing traffic citations or warnings, monitoring CCTV cameras & building security, and managing a local area emergency alert system.

Responsibilities At USPS I am responsible for processing, sorting, and delivering mail on a designated route each day in a timely manner. I substitute for regular carriers on their scheduled days off or on unscheduled sick days on any rural route in Newberg. These deliveries are often conducted in my privately owned vehicle, meaning I must maintain a clean driving record and safe driving habits. I am also responsible for the safety and security of the mail and parcels that I carry. Skills Used include: Safe driving in both my own vehicle, as well as a government owned vehicle; quick reading, memorization of routes and addresses, lifting up to 70 lbs safely, self-managing, working in both a team and as an individual, customer service, time management

My work with When I Grow Up Global offered me many opportunities to self-supervise as well as work with teams outside and in what many people would consider tough conditions. I've travelled with them to Nairobi, Kenya and Guatemala City, Guatemala, and in both places I've filmed and photographed our international partners' works to alleviate absolute poverty. My work for them in the States includes photographing and helping to organize several events such as fundraisers, as well as giving speeches at selected venues to support When I Grow Up’s mission and ideals. Skills used include: Adobe Creative Suite, public speaking, international travel, digital photography and graphic design, limited same-state travel, and working with both teams and as an individual.
