Read my full summary...I build TIME MACHINES ...no, really!25+ years - Product Design / Development25+ years - Project Management25+ years - Machining / CNC Programming25+ years - CAD / CAM20+ years - Watchmaking12 years - Managing EmployeesFor more than 15 years I've lead the engineering and development of every Oakley watch (this includes digital, quartz, and mechanical watches). This has been a perfect environment for my skill set. Prior to and during my time at Oakley, I've been more directly involved in the field of CNC machining. I've also owned my own business, designing and manufacturing a variety of products. With my intimate, first hand working knowledge of many manufacturing processes, I am uniquely suited to DFM (Design For Manufacturing). My work over the years has lead me all over the globe working with factories in Switzerland, France, Portugal, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and China. I've worked on many international projects involving intense product development of very complex, technical components and assemblies.I have designed and built tooling and fixtures for MFG production, assembly, and warranty repair / service. I am proficient with Solidworks, Creo, AutoCad, Rhino, MasterCam, GibbsCam, and other CAE software.Since Oakley's exit of the watch business, I have continued to do work in this field by way of occasional contract consulting work in the watch industry for both American and Swiss brands.I have a passion for product development. It extends beyond the workplace. Since 1992 I've maintained my own CNC equipped workshop for product development and personal projects (pics below). I've designed and produced many products, several of which have been either patented, sold, or gone to market. Projects include bicycle and motorcycle parts, LED flashlights, watches, Apple accessories, titanium jewelry, writing instruments, leather goods, and more. My shop includes 5 CNC machines (3 lathes & 2 4-axis mills - including 3 Haas machines), manual lathe and mill, Omax waterjet, Epilog CO2 laser (for cutting/engraving), Fiber laser (for deep metal engraving), vacuum forming, 3D printer, leather-work equipment, etc.www.instagram.com/maverickworkshop

  • Oakley
    Senior Mechanical Engineer
    Oakley Aug 2015 - May 2020
    Foothill Ranch, Ca, Us
After more than 15 years of leading the engineering and development of Oakley's Watches, I am once again working on Eyewear as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Automation group. In late 2015, Luxottica (Oakley’s parent company) decided that Oakley will exit the watch industry in order to focus efforts on its core eyewear business. Oakley is providing customer support for all of our watches through 2020. I still support any Watch needs, as necessary. In my current role, I am working on new eyewear models in development, designing and developing semi-automated tooling and fixtures for mass production assembly. I am responsible for managing internal and external resources as necessary, in order to maintain timelines of new product release schedules. This includes overseeing CAD, machining, assembly, testing and trouble-shooting, etc. Much of my time is spent designing pneumatically actuated 3D mechanical assemblies in Solidworks. This includes building complex 3D surface models for nesting the "Class A" surface geometry of our products.
  • Oakley
    Engineering Manager - Watches
    Oakley Mar 2007 - Aug 2015
    Foothill Ranch, Ca, Us
I wear a lot of hats here at Oakley. I am a very critical component of our nearly $15 million Watch Program. In addition to the technical role I continue to perform (noted in my prior role below), I also hold cradle-to-grave program and project management responsibilities far beyond Developmental Engineering. This includes involvement with Design, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, Purchasing, Planning, Retail, and Graphics teams. I conduct vendor sourcing/selection. Pricing negotiations with overseas suppliers and factories in Europe and Asia. Production planning for new product launches. I am the main point of contact between Oakley and its Watch suppliers and factories. My main responsibility is for all phases of product development of Oakley Watches. Taking designer sketches and figuring out how to turn them into reality. Thought-out mechanical design and technical development of Oakley art through to manufacturing production and product support throughout the product's life cycle.
  • Oakley
    Design Engineer - Watches
    Oakley Aug 2000 - Mar 2007
    Foothill Ranch, Ca, Us
My experience in developing iconic Oakley watch designs has broadened my skill set in the areas of MIM (Metal Injection Molding), stamping / forging, TPE / TPU / plastic injection molding, surface finishing / plating, leather working, etc. Responsibilities include all phases of product development of Oakley Watches. This includes movement selection and technical tasks such as building 3D CAD mechanical assemblies and mass/unbalance torque calculations for watch hands. I work very closely with our designers. Together we brainstorm design ideas, mechanical concepts, materials, etc. I create very detailed product definition specifications including materials, finishes, plating, graphics, pantone colors, etc. for each and every component of the watch. I design and develop R&D testing procedures and necessary fixtures (unique to our watch designs) in our R&D performance lab. I take designer sketches and figure out how to turn them into reality. Thought-out mechanical design and technical development of Oakley art through to manufacturing production and product support throughout the product's life cycle. Essentially crade-to-grave responsibilities beyond Developmental Engineering, including involvement with Design, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, and Purchasing/Planning teams.
  • Oakley
    Manufacturing Engineer - Eyewear
    Oakley Mar 1999 - Aug 2000
    Foothill Ranch, Ca, Us
Eyewear lens cutting, process engineering. Quick-change tooling design and implementation. Fixture designs for new models for QC measurement and optical coordinate measuring machine. Design of new direct-drive servo motor CNC lens cutting machines. Project management of new eyewear models (New Product Releases). It was also during this time that I took on the engineering responsibilities for our new watch program.
  • Gt Bicycles
    Cnc Programmer
    Gt Bicycles Aug 1997 - Mar 1999
Corporate-wide Employee of the Month (Dec 1998).I was brought in to establish an in-house CNC machining department for production machining of bicycle frame parts and various bicycle components. I brought in millions of dollars of CNC machine work that was previously being outsourced (as well as new projects), saving the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. I supervised a crew of 5 machinists (2 shifts). Designed all tooling and machine fixtures. Performed CNC programming of all parts and oversaw set-up of all machines. Facilitated acquisition of several CNC machines including pallet change equipment. Utilized Haas, Mazak, and Anilam CNC controls for machining and Allen Bradley CNC controls for multi-axis CO2 laser cutting for frame tube mitering.
  • Hershey Racing
    Owner / Founder
    Hershey Racing Jun 1992 - Jul 1997
