The world's leaders in finance, retail, telecommunications, insurance, healthcare and other industries use Ab Initio products to solve their hardest problems in corporate computing.My role is to design and develop new products that extend Ab Initio's product suite.

GulfStream Bioinformatics spun off from Ardais Corporation in order to commercialize their software in the medical R&D market (I was with Ardais prior to GulfStream). GulfStream Bioinformatics provides research information management software and related services to pharmaceutical/biotech companies and medical research centers. The integrated application suite features innovative query tools, procurement, clinical data acquisition, biospecimen inventory and logistics, laboratory information management and administrative functions, all available through a web portal.I led the largest department in the company, encompassing software product development, software quality assurance and regulatory compliance, IT, service delivery to software-as-a-service customers, and clinical informatics. I also served as chief software architect and participated actively in hands-on development of our software.

As chief architect, I led the design of all Ardais software systems. I continued this role upon promotion to vice president, when I became the head of the Software Engineering, Quality Assurance, Clinical Informatics and IT groups. Ardais provided biospecimen management software and related services to pharmaceutical/biotech companies and medical research centers. Its web-based software supported a wide range of activities related to biospecimens, including multi-site research collaborations.

Also in this timeframe I was co-founder and Lead Architect at Ellora Software and Chief Architect at e-MEDx. e-MEDx acquired Ellora Software, and e-MEDx was later acquired by ActiveHealth Management (AHM).AHM’s flagship product, CareEngine, mines millions of records of insurance data to discover patients who are not getting appropriate treatment; other products in the suite covered cost/utilization management and directed the workflow of improving care for these patients. AHM’s products help 90+ customers care for over twelve million patients, and earned an eHealth Innovation Award at the West Coast Health Internet Congress. AHM was ultimately acquired by Aetna for over $400 million.

I was part of Digital's Artificial Intelligence Research Group. Our activities centered on how to build flexible workplace automation solutions. Much of our software was involved in automating healthcare organizations.As one of five core members of Digital’s corporate-wide workflow task force, I helped define Digital’s workflow product strategy and contributed to the design of all of its workflow products. I also collaborated with researchers at MIT, Stanford and other institutions to develop process modeling frameworks that better handle the complexities of processes that span multiple organizations.
