The medical center is comprised of 36 structures of various classes of construction located on 298 acres with approximately 600 inpatients and an approximate staff of 1000 employees as well as a varying number of outpatients on a daily basis.The Health Technician/EMT responds to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening. Upon arrival at the scene, the EMT makes an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols using the one that is considered appropriate under the given circumstances.The Health Technician/EMT proceeds to provide the treatment as prescribed in the protocol. He/She will make modifications to the protocol, if necessary within prescribed limits; conduct complete examination of the patient's condition to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness and searches for medical alert symbols; determines, with due regard to the patient's condition, if and how the patient can be moved and to which medical facility the patient should be transported.
