Duties included the installation and configuration of Sun Enterprise 4500s, EMC Symmetrix 3700, McData ED-5000 SAN. Up time on all these systems was at nearly 100%. Also implemented a backup strategy for these systems using Veritas' NetBackup to backup business continuance volumes (BCVs) on the EMC Symmetrix. This involved writing an extensive Bourne shell script to synchronize the BCVs with the primary volumes and then use the BCVs to backup the data. This strategy resulted in only one minute of down time every night for the Oracle database. Responsible for all backups on Windows NT and NetWare servers using Veritas Backup Exec, including Backup Exec's Intelligent Disaster Recovery software for bare metal restores. Also concluded the development of all Y2K contingency plans, concluded updating the business resumption plans for 1999 and 2000, including development of a hot-site. Moved to team leader for a group of 5 with system administrator duties including front-line support for users, backups, Windows NT server O&M, home office and branch NetWare server O&M, new account administration, GroupWise administration, Sun/EMC/McData O&M, and writing knowledge-base documents for other administrators to use. Other projects included a plan for complete software upgrade of all the Sun/EMC/Veritas products, Microsoft SMS installation, Microsoft Cluster software installation, installation of a GroupWise WebAccess server including installation of the GroupWise Enhancement Pack, and development of an upgrade plan for NetWare 5.1.
