Examines copyright registration materials to determine the correct facts of a claim, checks the accuracy of the application statements against information included in the physical or electronic work deposited, and appropriately questions discrepancies. Determines whether the works contain sufficient original creative authorship, whether all applicable eligibility requirements have been met, and whether additional copyright principles are applicable to the claim. Evaluates correspondence relating to claims and addresses or resolves relevant issues. Uses appropriate analysis to identify problems in routine and increasingly complex claims. Designs, develops, revises, and teaches new and existing training in copyright registration for new employees.

The School of Information Sciences' Advisory Board consists of leaders in the field who provide strategic advice to the faculty and administration to ensure they continue to prepare library and information professionals who are equipped to meet the evolving needs of the profession. SIS Advisory Board members take a special interest in SIS programs and priorities and are available to offer advice and suggestions related to strategic direction and programmatic initiatives.

INF 6120: Access to Information [Aug 2016 - present, 13 sections to date]This general reference course introduces students to the structure and organization of knowledge in both print and non-print resources. It covers reference services and the communication skills needed to interact with users. The course also addresses the philosophy and procedures of database construction and the basics of searching, OPACs, commercial databases, and the internet.INF 6010: Foundation for the Information Profession [Jan 2022 - present, 2 sections to date]This course provides an introduction to librarianship and related information fields, with a view to equipping students with an understanding of the context and development of the values and functions of the profession(s).

Developed curriculum and course design for training users in both electronic and print media for a variety of Federal Governmental agencies. Each project required performing comprehensive reference research on complex problems, working with subject-matter experts, using strong searching techniques and strategies, providing recommendations to clients on the best instructional design approach, converting the information into a format conducive to learning, developing plans and objectives for completing the project with a team of employees and clients, and maintaining Section 508 standards for users with disabilities. In working with material from subject-matter experts, edited material for organization, clarity, style, and grammar. Ensured the course flowed logically from sufficient and appropriate evidence and that the presentation was suitable to accomplish its intended purpose for its designated audience. Reviewed, analyzed, and edited multiple drafts of the course to ensure that they met client/agency standards, and to identify and correct areas of weakness.For online courses, this included writing in a format optimized for the web, providing detailed instructions to clientele on how to access the course materials, maintaining and updating content, and notifying users that the new material is ready.Performed comprehensive reference research using strong searching techniques and strategies in primary and secondary sources to locate and select appropriate materials. Conducted reference interviews with co-workers to determine the best material for each project. Duties included evaluating requirements, formulating search strategies, and executing searches.Managed, organized, planned, and scheduled the work on large projects, adjusting plans and schedules as necessary to accommodate changes in workload, priorities, etc. Monitored quality, developed plans for project improvements, and briefed higher-ups on project status.

Managed a staff of over 40 volunteers over the course of the convention weekend and advised in decisions on the future of the convention. Edited press releases to assist in the roll-out of guest announcements. Contacted artists and collectors to establish the Library of Congress's small press comic collection. Coordinated with the show's primary charity, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a 501(c)(3) defending the first amendment rights of comic creators and retailers. Co-edited two anthologies released with the show, through both commissioning short pieces as well as selecting from an open submission process.As Ignatz Awards Director, managed the submissions of over 500 publications annually to the Ignatz Awards. Cataloged each submission based on publication date, associated creators, and award category eligibility; then grouped the submissions into batches for distribution to award jurors. Administered voting procedures to verify eligibility of selections, coordinated run-off votes, and debuted a final ballot all within a tight timeframe. Selected comic creators, publishers, and journalists to host and present awards at the annual ceremony held at SPX.

Managed the overall direction and structure of the Small Press Expo (SPX), the premiere convention for small press, alternative, independent, and creator-owned comics. Personally managed exhibitor relations with over 200 publishers and comic creators, and worked with hotel management and the State of Maryland Department of Taxation. Assigned table layouts based on hundreds of seating requests, and independently created specialty sections of exhibit space based on genre and intended age of audience.

Trained over 100 new and experienced runners for the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2006. Organized 18 pace groups' departures and arrivals on a weekly training course and assessed their status. Managed a new batch of volunteers each week to set up multiple water and aid stations along the course. Worked with a senior coach, a program site representative, and two other assistants to divide responsibilities and coordinate supply usage and replenishing.
